Gamble, chairman of the board of Gamble- Skogmo, Inc., announced today. This year's awards will bring tbe total number of winners to 240, sharing over $34,000 in awards since tbe inception of the plan in 1958-59. Tbe current 1966-67 scholarships, each worth $350, will go to ?& high scbool seniors graduating in Jane, 1967. Scholarship winners may use the funds for any course of study at any accredited college or university. All who qualify for tbe awards most demonstrate special ability in salesmanship, either through higb school programs or part- time jobs, as well as acceptable scholastic aptitude during their senior year. "Our annual scholarship awards are meant to encourage ambitious young people who demonstrate interest in a career in salesmanship," he said. "We consider the program a long- range investment in tbe growth of America's vital business community. "We hope to help promising students obtain the training necessary to meet tbe demands of a sales career. Letters from many past award winners bare indicated that without financial assistance a college education might hare been impossible. M During a sales contest during the moatti of October, stores in 23 states will compete for tbe right to award one of the 28 scholarships. Tbe highest percentage of sales increase over their October quotas determines tbe winners. "Algona has more than enough students qualified for an award, and we're going to do our best to win one this year," said Norm Christian, manager of tbe local Gamble store. "We share Mr. Gamble's interest in young people and salesmanship. Ifs a great pleasure to participate in his fine scholarship program." Mr. Christian emphasized that absolutely no purchase or registration is necessary' to qualify for the award, Selection of the high school senior to win each scholarship will be made by a committee consisting of school faculty members.
