She went to the U. of I. the first summer on a music scholarship j provided through the Miss Katherine Dickinson Studio School of Music, Alton, where Miss Maguire stu'died prior to her university work. Upon retiring from Alton school system Miss Maguire took a trip through the U. S. and toured Europe. Her travels in the U. S. were j supplimented by two cross-country | bus trips. During her European junket she made special side trips to Scotland and Ireland. Miss Maguire returned to the U.S. and settled down to a life of retirement, but after nine years of the life of leisure she yearned to be back in the classroom. In January 1954 the late Mother Mary Josephine of St. Bernard's School, Wood River, was killed in an auto accident and fast arrangement were made to secure a replacement.
