TUESDAY, JUNE 11, 1963 ALTON EVENING TELEGRAPH PAGE FIFTEEN Budget Up in Edwardsville Unit EDWARDSVILLE — Th Board of Education of Edwards ville Community Unit Schoo District 7 Monday approved total operating budget $2,521,878 for the 1963-64 fisca year, an increase of $242,55 over last year's budget. Estimated expenditures o $1,614,975 is appropriated in the district's educational-operating fund for the new fiscal year, an Increase over last year's tota of $1,513,517. A major part of operationa expense in the district was budg eted in the educational fund for instructional expenses total ing $1,414,944, an increase over last, year's total of $1,321,614. An estimated 90 per cent of expenditures in the educational fund is allotted for instructional salaries totaling $1,356,152. Largest single item in the salary appropriation is an estimated expenditure of $1,260,577 for teachers salaries. Other appropriations in Ihe educational fund with las) year's figures in parenthesis are: administration, $64,263, ($63,831); health serv'ces, $13,407, ($13.. 297); lolal plant: operation, $107,341, ($101,100); 'maintenance $4,150, ($3,500); «nd fixed charges, $10,780 ($10,175). Total for non-opertaing expenses in the educational fund Is $147,995; last year, $85,256. The increase is accounted for in purchase of 11 new buses at an estimated cost of $60,000. A total estimated expenditure of $159,542 is allowed in the new budget in the district building fund, a decrease over last year's total of $161,400. In the transportation fund the board approved appropriations of $85,- 398,, an increase over last years amount of $80,598. A total estimated expenditure of $256,265 is appropriated in the bond and interest account and $26,000 in Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund. A tax levy of $1,65 per $100 assessed valuation was authorized by the board. Funds from the rate, increased from $1.40 to $1.65 by voters in a special election, will not be available until the 1964-65 fiscal year. Under the 1963-64 budget, the district will continue to receive revenue under the $1.40 rate. Altonians Plead ' Innocent EDWARDSVILLE - Six defendants from Alton charged in indictments returned by the May Term Circuit Court Grand Jury entered pleas of innocent at their arraignment Monday before Circuit Judge Harold R. :iark, Ruth Viola Thompson, 51, of Alton, pleaded innocent to a charge of voluntary manslaughter; Frank Holliday, 17, Fred Hinton, 21, and Fred Stampley, 17, all of Alton, entered pleas of not guility in two separate indictments charging them with lurglary. They were charged with burglary of the Alton Laundry Co. ind Ginter-Wardein Co. of Alon, both on May 20. Donald Leroy Grissom, 17, 219 W, 13th St., Alton, pleaded in- locent to a theft charge. Jerry Glenn Sergerson of Edwardsville, who was apprehended by the FBI in Little Rock, Ark., after a series of house burglaries in Edwardsville, pleaded innocent to a charge of burglary. Arraignment of John Schook and Joseph Lira was continued. The two men are charged with burglary and theft at the Ben Franklin store in Godfrey Township. Thirty-four persons charged in criminal indictments hy the May Term Grand Jury entered innocent pleas before Judge Clark at Monday's arrignment.
