Phone Company Granted Franchise at Jersey JERSEYVILLE — The City Council Tuesday evening granted a 50 year franchise to the General Telephone Co. ol Illinois. The ordinance granting the franchise had been on file the required number of days following its first reading. It was given its final reading Tuesday evening and given unanimous passage by the council. On a motion by Commissioner Kenneth Searles City Attorney Alvin H. Petitt was reappointed. On roll call, the four commissioners voted for Petitt and Mayor James Dolan voted no. The council also voted to reappoint Adolph Schultz as director of Civil Defense at a salary of $1,200 per year based on cooperation with the board of supervisors. The council also voted authority to the mayor and city clerk to sign permits relative to the water line right-of-way in Rosedale Township.
