Telegraph Want Ads "CLICK' Airport Asks $83,000 in Federal Aid BETHALTO — The Civic i Memorial Airport Authority has <made application to the administration of Civil Aeronautics :for a grant of federal funds, to jassist in financing extension of the present hard-surface northwest southeast runway from 3950 feet to 3100 feel, the Telegraph learned Wednesday. In the first application for federal aid for the pioject the authority had proposed to extend the runway to 4,653 feet. Following several conferences with stale and federal aviation i officials the authority approved a proposal to revise the application and extend the runway to '5.100 feet. A runway exceeding '5,000 feet will qualify Ihe alr- <port for instrument landings, it was reported by Airport Board Chairman Mark K. Jacobson. Estimated cost of the runway intension is $166,000. The local (authority will finance §83.000 ,of the runway extension and the federal government Is expected 1 to allocate $83,000. A breakdown of estimated project expenses listed were: $120,000 for con- istruction costs; $16,000 for engineering and supervision; $12,000 for administration and S18,- 000 for land acquisition and .clear zone ayigation easements.
