Even the giraffes at the Brook field Zoological Gardens near Chicago enjoy a basket lunch. And of course, nothinp pleases the youngsters more than a combination treat of a visit to the roo, plus a picnic. A few loaves of enriched bread, moist sandwich fillings, sliced cheese and ham, fruit drinks and milk kept cold in vacuum bottles, fruit that won't crush, such as oranges, apples, bananas and pears, and few bars of candy or a baker's cake will do the honors for both young and old. Carry perishables (well chilled In advance) in plastic con. tainers with tight lids or plastic bags and, If possible, carry in a portable refrigerator. Otherwise, place Ice cubes in plastic bags and place other bags containing the perishables in the bags holding the ice. By bus, by auto or even by foot, go lo an interesting .spot for the picnic. Certainly the zoo (provided it has hospitable lawns near the animals) Ideal for youngsters. They will be fascinated to learn that at the Brookfield Zoo, the kangaroos, monkeys and camels eat balanced meals very much like their own. Each gels some cereal food, fruit and vegetable, milk and enriched bread. Children enjoy "surprise" sandwiches on a picnic. They add excitement to the outing. Try these—we have found them popular with our young companions.
