Some- timet the** sunspots can be seen through dark glasses, or even with the naked eye. These spots are terrific storm centers in the sun's atmosphere. When observed through a powerful telescope they appear much like a tornado does to a pilot flying over it. Careful study has shown that these storms on the sun's surface consist of whirling gases made up of electric particles. Scientists have determined that they operate in cycles of approximately 11 years, with the spots being more numerous in eertaln periods of the cycle. On some days there are no spots at all.
