The vacationer wistfully wishes he could have a universal license that allowed him to stop off for a couple of hours at every likely looking piece of fishing water as he travels from state to state. For several years the Illinois which they would agree to re cogntee, rhe federal stamp, adopt a uniform fee and agree to an allocation back to the states from the use of federal stamps. Ten or more staffs could also compact to allow fishing in all '.val- ors of their respective stales. Many vacationing fishermen would certainly welcome the opportunity of extending their fishing territory. It would make things simpler all along the way No more hunting up license depots late at night or early in the morning: however, there are problems. States will be very dubious of allowing hordes of fishermen to fish promiscuously without a Tourney Slated ; (*«•» Rowling Mited Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs «* promiscuously wiinout a and the National Wildlife Fed- * ta ! llc «nse License fees are and the National Wildlife eration ha* discussed the possibility and now Congress is con sidering a bill that would provide for a federal fishing stamp allowing fishing in national b «dly needed to promote better local . a "? lers : . ha " |» "«««"• P arks where would wc fit in? It jisn't Inconceivable that they may have at one time been found In the Mississippi or feeder streams of Illinois. No recoi-d has been established indicating muskies were native to any lakes in Illinois. We do know that some mus- kies have been stocked in a few' Illinois ponds and lakes but Ihave never heard of any of these ever being caught. The til- 'inois Natural History Survey is ; I now experimenting with mus- kies in one of the Fin and Feather Club ponds at Dundee. They .seem to be growing okay but Ithe chances of their propagating jure pretty slim. Some of these; jhave been caught by the Survey, biologists who are studying them 'very closely. Don't Cancel Trips , Before any ambitious angler spends his hard earned dough, to buy muskies to stock in his overstocked bluegill pond he had better get approval from thej Department of Conservation.' Otherwise he may find them awfully expensive. The Natural History Survey would like very much to know if anyone has ever caught a musky in Illinois and if anyone knows of ponds, lakes or streams that have been stocked. Just recently a couple of Minnesota and Wisconsin fish breeders have found the way to propagate and successfully ship live j musky fingerlings. i Don't cancel that northland i musky fishing trip just yet.
