The vote was 86 to 60 The Democrats opposed the budget as a protest against the slashing of defense items and increasing appropriations for town and county highways by 51600000 Never before have the Tuesday night in Washington The date will be set by Governor Lehman The selection will be made by voters of the district from three candidates the nominees of the Democratic Republican and American next week will start investigating payrolls of the City of Lackawanna This became known this afternoon when subpoenas were served on City Clerk James Redmond and City Treasurer Robert Monaghan directing their appearance before the grand jury next Wednesday morning with certain records of their offices Other subpoenas were expected to be served on Mayor John Aszkler Council President John Citak and Councilmen Joseph Kasprzak Julius Karsa and William II Carroll as well as probably 20 city workers District Attorney Ilagerty refused to discuss the investigation In fact he would not talk about the subpoenas but their existence became known when those served identified the process server as Lieut William Downey of the prosecutor's office The subpoena for City Clerk Redmond directs him Jest Ends in Murders Mild-Mannered Mailman Broods Over Loss of Suit Riddles Posse With Rifle Mont March 11 (U P) George Smith 44 mild-mannered mailman lost a civil suit involving a horse His postoffice friends jokingly called him "horse It wasn't a joke to Smith he brooded and stopped speaking to them Their kidding rankled so he couldn't sleep at night and his wife made him stay at home Tuesday She was up Tuesday morning doing her housework thinking he was still in bed When Richard Shippo-reit called to read the electric meter she didn't stop She heard the report of a rifle and looking through the door saw Shipporeit on the ground Her husband was leaning out of a window holding a smoking gun Mrs Smith fled to a neighbor's house Sheriff Jack Shoblom gathered a posse and besieged the house When one of Smith's shots killed Herman Green 25 Sheriff Shoblom threw four gas bombs into the house and ordered his deputies to and bring the killer in Deputy Lloyd Stringer tried
