Launch Hearings on Vetoed Bills WASHINGTON (AP) - A Senate subcommittee launches hearings today on the first of 11 bills vetoed last year by President Nixon amid indications the Democratic Congress may move more slowly than anticipated in challenging his efforts to curb domestic spending. Meanwhile, another hint of congressional readiness to establish its own budgetary limits could come as a special joint committee on budget control holds an organizational session. Senate Democratic Leader Mike Mansfield acknowledged after a meeting Tuesday with legislative committee chairmen that he was unable to get firm pledges on when they would have legislation ready for action by the full Senate. Mansfield had hoped for a fast start on legislation, especially the 11 measures rejected by Nixon as too costly after Congress adjourned last October. Sneeze Revives Hearing COVENTRY, England (AP) — A 22-year-old worker in an auto factory here says a sneeze has ended a lifetime of almost total silence. • „ "I can hear, I can hear," Jean Haynes shouted after the loud sneeze. Miss Haynes has been vir- t u a 1 1 y deaf since birth. Recently, she found she was allergic to the plastic foam used in the plant department where she worked. She started sneezing and couldn't stop — once going for six hours. Miss Haynes was transferred to another department, but she gave one final sneeze Saturday. Doctors believe the head-jerking sneezes unblocked a tube connecting her middle ear and nose. There's just one problem. Miss Haynes said she has trouble sleeping. Too much noise.
