Fort Worth, March 23.Fol- lowing a raid ou an alleged gambling house late Friday, County Attorney Jeff D. McLean was shot and killed and Hamil P. Scott, a member of the raiding party, fatally wounded by William Thompson, proprietor of the resort raided.

Half an hour later Thompson was surrounded in a lumber yard within a hundred yards of where Scott was shot down and captured after a desperate fight in which Thompson received bullet wounds that will probably cause his death within a few hours. The series of tragedies were of the most sensational and spectacular character and were witnessed by hundreds of men and women, including many members of the state legislature here in attendance on a stock show. The house raided is located on Main street near the corner of Sixth, right in the heart of the retail district. McLean Shot in the Neck. Shortly before five o'clock County Attorney McLean, heading a party of deputies, forced an entrance into the place, placed a number of men under arrest ami loaded a furniture van with tables and other The wagon with the confiscated furniture had just moved off when Thompson approached McLean, who was standing on the sidewalk, and when within a few feet of the official, firei one shot, the bullet striking McLean in the threat, breaking his neck and causing almost instant death.

As Mc(Lean fell, Thompson turned and west on Sixth street with Scott in pursuit. Dodging behind a billboard at Seventh and Tvcckmcvion streets, Thompson ambushed Scott, shooting the deputy three times in the body. When Scott fell Thompson stopped only long enough to discard his empty pistol for that carried by the dying deputy and then renewed his flight. Desperate Fight with Officers. By this time a score of policemen and deputy sheriffs, followed by hundreds of excited men and boys, were In pursuit of Thompson, who found temporary refuge in a lumber shed! just across the street from tne Touralae hotel, the most fashionable hostelry In the city.

Here he was located by Patrolmen Bell and Loyd. Thompson, by this time thoroughly desperate and with the cry of "lynch him" ringing in his ears, was. ready for a fight to the death. Bell and Loyd opened fire on Thompson, which the latter returned. The officers wounded Thompson in three places and he is probably Jy injured.

As soon as Thompson had, Moe, the Noted Norwegian Violinist, Will Appear at the Opera House Friday Evening, Aprii Valders,) such men as Edward 'Grieg, Ole Oleson, general musical director of the Norwegian army, and Chapel Choir Master, Johan Halvorson, as judges. Mr. Moe will give a concert at the opera house in this city on Friday evening, April 5, assisted by Miss Mabel Abrahamson with selections on the piano. Tickets, 50 cents, for sale at Wees'. 'emptied his gun officers, whose own pistols were emptied, fell upon him with bare hands and made him a prisoner.

Crowd Wanted to Lynch Him. Soon the police patrol wagon came dashing through the crowd and the officers came out dragging Thompson with them and holding their empty revdvers in their hands. The mob threw themselves upon the officers and were only prevented from attacking Thompson by the declaration that the man was dead. With men hanging on the steps of the wagon and demanding the life of the wounded prisoner, the race was made to the station and the prisoner was carried into the police hospital. The story was then spread that he was dead and the mob quieted.
