Is to be widened, realigned and sharp curves eliminated, according to Supervisor J. W. Pickle, who has charge of the work. The work will also include the two arteries leading to the river on John Day Fiat, where the Ukiah Pine Lumber Company is constructing a mill. There are two roads branching from the John Day Hill road: the old original road to the right, a distance of .8 of a mile, and the road to the left, which is nearly a mile in length. The left hand road Is the one which will receive the majoi" part of the work. According to Supervisor Pickle, this road can be graded so that in no place will the grade exceed seven percent. The right hand road is a steep, nine percent grade. The sharp curves will be cut on this road and dther work done. Ukiah Pine Lumber Company, which is constructing a mill at John Day Flat, asks for a four per cent grade on the road leading from the fiat and proposes a road in the area of the right hand road, which Supervisor Pickle claims is Impossible of construction by the county. Work on the John Day Hill road will start without delay and will be cairied on by a crew of 65 WPA workers. This road, when complet ed, will be a 22-foot road throughout, with better grade and broader curves from foot to hill top.
