DAILY PALO ALTO TIMES RIDAY EB 26 I960 Whisman School District delays setting tax increase amount Whisman School District trustees have aealn postponed a decision on how large a tax Increase they will seek at an election tentatively scheduled for early May The board decided last night to delay the decision until its March 10 meeting after learn ing that a 60 cent tax hike would still leave the district $52000 short of proposed ex penditures for next year SUPERINTENDENT Arthur Tindall presented a second draft budget calling for $977 480 a reduction of $32536 Actions of Whisman school trustees summarized from an initial budget proposal prepared last month A citizens' committee has recommended a May election to raise the district tax rate from the present $165 to $225 per $100 of assessed valuation Tindall however pointed out that the $225 rate and an an ticipated one and a half mil lion dollar Increase in assessed valuation would increase in come only to $924749 It would be $838625 at the current $165 rate The Whisman School Dis trict Board of Trustees last night: Postponed until March 10 a decision on how large a tax Increase to request in an election tentatively scheduled for May Studied a second prelimi nary draft of a 1960 61 budg et calling for record ex penditures of $977480 Received copies of the first edition of a newsletter which will be mailed to district resi dents this week Watched a demonstration by Carl Heaney Whisman School principal of equip ment and materials used to improve and test reading Heard a report on district nursing services by Mrs Joan Walker district nurse Whisman School District trustees agreed unanimously last night that they favor a single merger of the four school districts In the Mountain View Los Altos areas Although Trustee Roger Crosby said he believed such a merger is he and the other four board members said they believed the Moun tain View Union High School District and the Los Altos Whisman and Mountain View elementary districts should be combined in a single district TRUSTEE Elmer Campbell was authorized to express the Whisman board's position if a merger vote is taken at a study session Monday evening of the Santa Clara County Commit tee on School District Organ ization The meeting will be at 8 pm in the auditorium of the Moun tain View High School Castro and Church streets The committee may make a Whisman school newsletter sent to residents The Whisman School District has published the first edition of a four page newsletter to explain school activities to district residents Superintendent Arthur Tin dall said 2850 copies would be mailed this week enough for every household in the district Articles in the first edition report on a committee survey construction of the new San Ramon School district his tory schools transportation and education specialists Tindall said tentative plans are to issue about four news letters a year Completely New rom BUILDER to YOU 5 Bedrooms 3 Baths Plus amily Room All Electric Kitchen (Including a frost free Refrigerator) $36000 EICHLER HOMES Los Arboles DA 6 0S54 Eves DA 2 0425 Saturday Special!
