The federation is a nongovernmental farm organization whose members include national farm groups in 28 countries throughout the world. Savary said lapse of the agreement could well turn world wheat markets into an that would be harmful to farmers. agreement gives wheat farmers some assurance that an international price war will not hopelessly disrupt the wheat he said.

UNDER THE present agreement 44 importing countries have been assigned import quotas totaling 395 million bushels this marketing year. This total is apportioned among three major exporting United States, Canada and Australia. Because U. S. wheat prices are supported domestically above prices prevailing under the agreement, the government pays the difference in the form of an export subsidy, presently is about 80 cents a bushel or about 40 per cent of the domestic price.
