Dixon went to Chicago this morning on a business Philadelphia, March striking carmen have repudiated the agreement made between the Rapid Transit company and their own president, I). Mahon.

It came as the most absolute surprise that Philadelphia has ever known. After tose had forced the transit company to grant, fifty er cent more than the strikers had ever demanded; after Mahon had eagerly accepted terms atid had shaken hands on the bargain with the senator, Vice President Wolf of the company and others in the conference; after the announcement by the senator and Mahon that the strike was over, the car union deliberately offended Penrose, who had obtained toi them than they had asked. Penrose, angered, has returned to Washington. Mahon, insulted by his own followers, is on the point of with drawing the support of the International Carmen's union. Thousands of union men who had been out in sympathy with the carmen went back to their jobs, disgusted with the result.

E. Greenwalt has gone to Wilkes barre to consult with the council of the Btate Federation of Labor as to i whether a state wide strike shall be called. He is disappointed as to the del.ant stand taken by the local union. The officials and directors of the transit company, driven into making terms which they detested by Senator Penrose, are more irritable than ever before and more incensed against the cariuen. The carmen say that they repudiated I the agreement because they did not want the strike to he settled by politicians, and because! there was no exclusive recognition of; their union in the peace treaty.
