HORN, Patricia "Patsy" Lee Simmons, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 15, 2015, after a courageous six-year battle with ALS, Lou Gehrig's disease, at the Levine and Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, N.C. Patsy was the Teacher of the Deaf and Hearing Impaired for Rock Hill District's three schools for more than 23 years until symptoms from ALS forced her to retire. She loved her work and felt completely fulfilled in helping her student children learn auditory skills.

She was recognized as a Teacher of the Year in 201L Using her teaching skills in every facet of her life, she would sign the blessings at the family dinner table during Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations. She mentored young teachers, including her niece, in classroom management. She gently helped many families adjust to life with a hearing impaired child. And when she was diagnosed with ALS she became the teacher of altered lifestyles, helping other victims of ALS and their families adjust to their changing life with grace and joy.

She starred in training videos for medical professionals to help them learn about ALS patient needs. Patsy was born on March 24, 1953 in Richmond, Va. to Patrick Spencer Simmons and Mattie Lee Whitfield Simmons. She was a majorette at Huguenot High School in Bon Air, Va.
