Jane Sion, prench Woman, In Water 5 Hours FOUR SWIMMERS HAVE LOST Gris Nez, France, Aug. (U.R)—Two more swimmers, a man and a woman, today tailed to emulate Gertrude teat in swimming the English channel. They were Omer Perrault, a French- Canadian, and Mme.

Jane Sion, a French woman. Since Gertrude set a new mark tor speed across the channel Friday, tour swimmers have laded over the same course. Perrault and Mme. Sion returned to alais at 0 a. today aboard their tug.

They abandoned their efforts at about 3 a after 5 hours in the water. Perrault is a powerful, speedy swimmer. In 10li3 lie attempted the channel swim and was 'beaten by rough water. While he was lying in the cahin of a nail tug, exhausted, an explosion occurred aboard ship and the fire ignited a large pot of gasoline which was being used to remove the grease from his body. Perrault was terribly burned.

Mme: Sion, the foremost French woman distance swimmer, is a mature woman in her early forties. She swims with a hcrast stroke, slowly and steadily. Miss Ederle conquered the channel Friday, Mme. Sion had established the best record Tor women be staying in the water sixteen and one-hall hours in 1923. She has been trying to swim the channel ever since the whr.
