Constance Lynn Perrine was born March 11, 1932, in Herrin, the only child of Link and Audrey Perrine.

Link was a lifelong Herrin White resident probably still remembered by many for his fraternal and civic involvements. Audrey (Pace) lived briefly in Alabama before coming to Herrin as a child. She worked for several years at the Southern Illinoisan. Many summers of Connie's childhood were spent in Florence, Ala. She graduated from Herrin High School and attended Southern Illinois University before moving to Los Angeles.

For a short time she lived with her uncle and aunt, W.A. and June Pace, who had migrated earlier from Southern Illinois, W.A. from Herrin and June from Carterville. During this time she worked for North American Aviation as a clerk and receptionist. She soon sought greater adventure and entered training to become a stewardess for United Airlines.

Her flying career spanned 1953 to 1960 when she resigned to marry Bob White, a passenger met on a flight from Hawaii. Connie and Bob were married July 30, 1960, in Herrin Presbyterian Church. They settled in Manhattan Beach and raised three children, Katy, Link and Ann. Connie loved airplanes and the airline so it was natural for her to join other ex-stewardesses to become an "Airport Guide." This was a part-time occupation, leading tours and performing other PR functions at the Los Angeles airport. She became active in Clipped Wings, the organization of former United Airlines stewardesses, and in 1965 served as president of the Los Angeles chapter.

She enjoyed having a job, and the work she chose was nearly always aviation oriented. With the children grown, she worked briefly for Flying Tigers and then for nearly 10 years in the inflight office of Northwest Airlines, dealing regularly with flight attendants. Here she made many new friends and found great enjoyment associating with people working at the job of her youth. Connie had the wonderful gift of making people happy wherever she went. She was a leader, a problem solver, a counselor and was always considerate, sometimes even to a fault.

Following retirement from Northwest, she immediately accepted a part-time job at Los Angeles World Airport doing special assignments for the deputy executive director of airport operations. This continued until prevented by her recent illness. Connie enjoyed returning to Herrin whenever she could and did her best to maintain ties with her hometown. She is connected with the Kane family through her first cousin, Ruth Perrine Kane. She often made contact with other Herrinites gone to different locations and her dearest friend from childhood, Carmen Pollack Golding, another Herrin native, was with her in the last days.

She is survived by husband, Bob; children, Katy White Lockhart (Tom), Lincoln White (Monica) and Ann White; grandchildren, Madeline Lockhart, Caroline Lockhart, Andrew White and Lincoln White; and also, uncle and aunt, W.A. and June Pace. A memorial will be Friday, July 8, at 2 p.m. in St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Pacific Coast Highway and Ave.

Redondo Beach, CA 90277. Connie's favorite charities include one supported by Clipped Wings: The South Bay Vocational Center (Linda Mitchell (310) 784-2045), Trinity Hospice (310) 530-3800 or the cancer fund of your choice. i born May 10, 2005, in Carbondale, to Kelli (Brewer) and Kip Duane Gooch, Sr. He was a gift from God who was here for only a short time, but Kelisha Gooch he will be loved and missed deeply by all.
