^ tnwtons A Poor Substitute For Prayer Are you one of many who "religiously" pick up horseshoes, pins, four leaf clovers, carry good luck charms, avoid walking under ladders and walk out of your way when a black cat crosses your path, yet declare that praying gets you nowhere, that your prayers are never answered and you might as well talk to yourself? Would you be willing to carry out a program of daily prayer for one year and "stick" to it as religiously as you do to your "horseshoe praying" just to determine from which you derive the most bene- fit? Prayer has been a godsend to many in time of stress, heavy burdens and seemingly insurmountable problems — George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and Jimmy Doolittle to name just a few. Now one does not have to attend church to derive benefits from praying, but regular church attendance can be an effective school from which to learn how to pray effectively. It should be, for its text is the Holy Bible which relates many instances of prayers answered. Attending church this week is well worth your trial!
