Bally, already is the world's second-largest operator of theme amusement parks, announced the agreement Thursday. The proposed purchase, outlined in a letter of intent signed Wednesday, would bring to seven the number of major theme parks operated by Six Flags a subsidiary of Chicago-based Bally. The bank, with assets of $34 nul-lion, was closed Thursday after state officials found it insolvent, the Illinois bank commissioner said. The Chicago bank has liabilities of $34.2 million, authorities said. The number of depositors at the bank, chartered in 1962, was unknown, officials said. Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. was named receiver of the bank.

If another bank is found by the FDIC, the bank's offices could open as soon as next week, said Bill Olcheski, an agency spokesman in Washington.
