Intercounty Gets 2 Per Cent Loan REPUBLIC WASHINGTON BUREAU WASHINGTON The United States Agriculture Department's Rural Electrification Administration has approved a special $297,000 low-interest loan to the Intercounty Electric Association, of Mitchell. The loan Is special because It carries a two per cent in- t. rate. REA loans generally carried such low interest rates in the past, but Congress amended the law this year and virtually eliminated the two per cent REA money. Such low-interest loans can now be made only if the borrow meets stiff criteria spelled otil by Congress.

The REA said Intercounty qualified because It serves two or fewer er mile and has an average revenue per mile that is i450 less than the average by REA-financcd ystems. The loan will permit Iri- crcounty to serve 34 additional ustomers, build 16 additional miles of distribution line and make various system irrt- irovements. When the project is coni- ileted, the REA said ercounty will serve 3,895 ustomers over 2,215 miles of ine in portions of 12 counties. Douglas Murphy is of Intercounty and Anderson Is manager.
