Backyards became game centers as many persons enjoyed competition on the volleyball and badminton courts, touch football games and croquet. Others were fortunate to beat the heat in swimming pools while the charcoals were heating. Thousands of Pottstonians lined both sides of High Street during early afternoon for the The surprise rain only temporarily interrupted holiday activities as the sun broke through the overcast skies and clouds began dispersing shortly before dark. The hot and humid weather for the beginning of the holiday weekend ended following the rain storm as temperatures dropped into the low 70s. The July 4th weekend closed on a bright note when Pottstown residents were blessed with near ideal weather Sunday.

Mild temperatures and an occasional breeze brought a pleasant relief from previous heat. Many golfers toured the links and while their scores may not have been in the 70s, the temperature was.
