Upper Des MoinM Tuesday, August 9, 1966 Dale Hayes Is Golf Winner At Bancroft BANCROFT - The North Kossuth Golf Club held their annual Men's Invitational Tournament July 30 with 146 men participating. Prize winners were as follows: Championship Flight: 1st Dale Hayes; 2nd - Benny Bennett; 3rd - Chuck Mason; 4th Bill Engestler. 1st Flight - 1st - Jerry Ferris; 2nd - Dick Hoffman; 3rd John Beade; 4th - Howard Custer. 2nd Flight - 1st - Bob Reid; 2nd - Larry Hinckley; 3rd Duane Lammers; 4th - Lamont Jansen. 3rd Flight - 1st - Ron Reid, ST.', and - Fibber McGee; 3rd Howard Thompson; 4th - Tony Accurso. 4th Flight - 1st - Art Costello; 2nd - Gordy Schmidt; 3rd - Herman Dreesman; 4th - Corwin Peer. 5th Flight - 1st - Joe Wol- Iner; 2nd - Gilbert Heifty; 3rd Don Ferris; 4th - Paul Meyer. 6th Flight - 1st - Len McGuire; End - Art Groen; 3rd Vic Johnson; 4th - Dick McVey. 7th Flight - 1st - M. L. Ohman; 2nd - John Nahoulz; 3rd - Larry Tilford; 4th - Bill Pech. 8th Flight - 1st - Dave McGuire; 2nd - Bob Devine; 3rd E. G. Frink; 4th - John Intermill. Benny Bennett of Livermore shot a 31 in his last nine holes on the par 35 course to register the lowest score ever played here. He was winner of the medalist prize in addition to his second place standing in the Championship flight. Over $500 worth of prizes were given out and lunch was served by the ladies throughout the day. The weather co-operated and the event was termed a great success by all who participated. Patrolmen Busy In Iowa Heavy Traffic Areas State Commissioner of Public Safety, Gene L. Needles, said today that Operation SED (Special Enforcement Detachment) is presently being con• ducted in Iowa. Needles said that the drive is one phase of the Iowa Highway Safety Patrol's effort in support of Governor Hughes' "Reverence for Life Month" program. Each of the 14 patrol districts have set up squads that are moving into various counties, concentrating on locations having high accident rates or heavy traffic. "This saturation enforcement has proved effective in the past" Needles said. The special enforcement teams are using a variety of enforcement techniques, including radar and patrol spotter planes. Commissioner Needles pointed out that August is always one of. the most dangerous months of the year on the states highways. He noted that 92 people were killed in traffic accidents last August, more than in any other month in Iowa's history, 89 were killed in August of " your presence at an open house in honor of their parents' silver wedding anniversary Sunday, Aug. 14, from 2-5 o'clock in the Burt Methodist church basement. All relatives and friends are invited. Fete Ball Players All Algona Little League baseball players and girl's softball league players, coaches and um- pires will be guests at a watermelon feed at the Athletic Park on East State street here tomorrow (Wednesday) evening. Festivities will begin with a baseball game between 8th graders from the Senior League and a group from the National League at 7 p.m. Algona service clubs are sponsoring the event, a fit- ting climax to the recently completed season.
