Britton of Carbondale, formerly of Effingham, died early Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001 at Carbondale Memorial Hospital. Gladys L. Tweedy Lynn JONESBORO Gladys L. Tweedy Lynn, 90, of Gallatin, formerly of Jonesboro, died Tuesday Feb.

6, 2001, at Cameron Community Hospital in Cameron, Mo. She was born 23, 1911, in Jonesboro, the daughter of Charles Edgar and Matilda Jane Boyer Tweedy. She married Daniel Lynn. He preceded her in death in 1958. A son, Edgar Lee Green, and eight brothers and sister also preceded her in death.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel C. and Louise Lynn of Gallatin, John and Beverly Lynn of Sterling Heights, and Howard and Joan Green of East Alton; grandchildren; several greatgrandchildren and great-greatgrandchildren. Funeral sendees will be held 1 p.m. today, Feb. 10, 2001, at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna, with the Rev.

Isaacs, 68, died at 10:44 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at the Herrin Hospital. Services will be at 10 am. Monday at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin, with Msgr.

Andre Monterastelli COBDEN Andre Monterastelli, 84, of Cobden died at 6:57 am. Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, in the Union County Hospital. He was bom March 28, 1916, in Spring Valley to Guilio and Rosa (Pellegrini) Monterastelli. He was a retired coal miner.

His parents, Raymond and Rhoda (Hampton) Morris, his natural father, John McGowen, and one son, John Eric Morris, preceded him in death.

0 tMTflffittMuMS if' DU QUOIN Ruby L. Clemens, age 83, of 310 S. Division, Du Quoin, formerly of Pinckneyville, passed away Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, in the Fair Acres Nursing Home in Du Quoin at 3:56 p.m. Ruby was born in Eden, on Jan.

27, 1918, a daughter of Elbert and Tursa Bell (Shelton) Harrell. She married Carroll R. Clemens at Chester in 1934, and he preceded her in death on July 5, 1989. Survivors include a son, Gene Clemens and wife, Billie of Ho-bart, daughter, JoAnn Brick-man of Indianapolis, two brothers, Edwin Harrell of Du Quoin and Clifford Harrell of Pinckneyville; sister, Pearl Bean of East St. Louis; four grandsons; four granddaughters; and 19 great-grandchildren; along with many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, David L. "Butch" Clemens, three sisters, Eva Rednour, Leona Con-nel and Marie Cole, five brothers, Clem, Ablert Everett, James and Oscar, three half sisters, Lydia Sheppard, Gertie Gardner and Eva Banks and one half-brother, Earl Harrell. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Feb. 12, at 11 am. in the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville, with the Rev.

Memorials may be made to the Southern Illinois Baptist Food Pantry or the Second Baptist Church of Du Quoin. Rose Nell Long HERRIN Rose Nell Long, 101, died at 2:50 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at her resi dence. Mrs.

Long was born Aug. 17, 1899, in Kelly Station, to James Jackson and Iva (Grant) Long. She married Albert Long in 1915, in Kentucky. He died Feb. 24, 1957.

She was a homemaker and of the Apostolic faith. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Marion and JoAnn Long of Lake of Egypt; two daughters, Mary Miller and Dolores "Betsy" Long, both of Herrin; two daughters-in-law, Marcella Long of Ferges and Norma Long of Herrin; 11 grandchil-dren; several greatgrandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons, Leon Long and Elbert Long, one daughter, Julia Clark, one sister, Violet Storm, four grandchildren, Melinda Jo Long, Brent Lee Long, Charles A Clark and Eddie Long and one great-great-granddaughter. Private visitation and funeral services will be held. Interment will be at East Lawn Memorial Gardens with Rev.

Oscar Curt OLMSTEAD Oscar Curt, 97, died at 3:55 am. Friday, Feb. 7, 2001, at Union County Hospital in Anna He was born near Olmstead Nov. 9, 1903, the son of August and Eva (Rinehart) Curt. He married Dessie Corzine in 1933.

He lived his entire life in the home he was born in, that his parents built on Feather Trail Road in Pulaski County. He had peach orchards and was also a cattle and vegetable farmer. He served on the board of directors at First State Bank of Olmstead for 46 years. He was a fourth degree Knights of Columbus of Cairo and a member of the Farm Bureau. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Ullin.

He is survived by nephews, Joe Ulrich of Anna, Donald Ledbetter of Ullin, Richard Ledbetter of Riverside, and one niece, Pricilla Brantley of St. Louis. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 62 years, Dessie, and sisters, Lena Ulrich and Elsie Ledbetter, both of Anna; and one nephew, Lawrence Ulrich of Cape Girardeau. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna Rosary will be at 5:30 p.m.

Sunday at the funeral home, led by Father Bill McGee of Mound City. Funeral mass will be held at 10 am. Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, in St. Catherines Catholic Church in Grand Chain, with Father Bill McGhee officiating.

Interment will be in St. Catherines Cemetery in Grand Chain. Carruthers MARION Geraldine Carruthers, age 78, of Marion, passed away at 2:15 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, in the Marion Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Franklin County, between Thompsonville and Galatia, on Sept. 24, 1922, the daughter of Raymond and Lola (Waller) Nave. Geraldine was united in marriage to Samuel Edward Carruthers, Sept. 16, 1946, in Carbondale. Together they enjoyed nearly 36 years of marriage until his death came on March 21, 1982.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Marion for many years. She is survived by four sons and four daughters-in-law; Samuel and Nancy Carruthers of Sullivan, Gary and Cathy Carruthers of Godfrey, Steven and Margaret Carruthers of McIIenry, Jeff and Mary Carruthers of Carterville, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three brothers. The funeral service for Geraldine Carruthers will be held at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, in the Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home of Marion, with Pastor Melva England officiating.

Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery of Ava. The family will be receiving friends today between the hours of 5 and 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. Mr. Dexter was born at Ullin on Sept. 14, 1924, the son of the late Ben and Ella fMowerv) Dexter.

Mr. Dexter was a member of Crossroads Methodist Church of Ullin, served as a Corporal in the Korean Conflict, was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Fan and retired farmer. Mr. Dexter was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Bennie Dexter, sister Wanda Lentz, brother Paul Dexter and grandson Matthew Dexter.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Duane and Brenda Dexter of Lincoln; a daughter and son-in-law, Glenda Dexter Brown and Philip Brown of Chesterton, a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Helen Dexter of Ullin; sisters, Geraldine Boudreau of Byron, Carol Jean and Elmer Adams of Ullin; sister-in-law Dorothy Dexter of Ullin; brother-in-law Gerald Lentz of Jonesboro; five grandchildren, Matthew and Christopher Brown, Shelley Dexter, Andrew Dexter, and Derek Dexter, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Ralph W.D. Dexter will be at 11 am. today at Jones Funeral Home in Tamms, with the Rev. John Clark officiating.

Harvey Lee Crowe SOUTHERN ILLINOIS Harvey Lee Crowe, age 76, of Avon Park, Fla, formerly of Rockford, passed away Friday, Feb.

9, 2001. He was born in Herrin. Mr. Crowe was the director of patient accounts for Rockford Memorial Hospital for 22 years, retiring in 1984. He is a past member of the Moose and the Lions.

Survivors include his wife, Joan M. Crowe of Avon Park; four daughters, Marsha Jensen of Pryor, Okla, Linda Lawrence and Debra Glidden of Rockford and Karen Baxter of Beloit, one son, Steven Harvey Crowe of Rockford; a sister, Lucille Crem-er of Decatur, 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Cremation arrangements are being handled by Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home of Sebring, Ha ANNA Jewel "Jude" Sims, son of Thomas Jefferson and Florence Isadore Miler Sims was born Sept. 25, 1909, in Pulaski County, and passed away Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at the V.A Medical Center in Marion at the age of 91 years.

He married Mildred Marie Dixon on April 29, 1929. She preceded him in death on June 12, 1980. He later married Lessie Lee Laminae Duncan. Mr. Sims worked as a laborer at Coleman Saw Mill for 18 years and he was a veteran.

He was a lifelong resident of Union County. Survivors include his wife, Lessie; six daughters, Audrey Dolores Dover of Jonesboro, Viola Poole of Anna, Betty Lou Wright of Dongola, Patricia Vivian Wooden of Granite City, Virginia Louise Halleck of Arcadia, Fla and Judy Roselean Oritz of Lakeland, Fla; four sons, Karell Gene and Carl Hubert Sims, both of Anna, Ralph Everette Sims of Cobden and Harvey Ray Sims of Jonesboro; 24 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas James Jewel Sims and by nine brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Feb. 11, at 1 p.m.

Rees CARBONDALE Grace V. Rees, 90, long time resident of Carbondale, recently livingclose to relatives in Escondido, passed away at 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001 ather residence. Funeral services will be held at 11 Monday, Feb. 12, 2001 at Meredith Funeral Home, Carbondale with Rev.

Dennis Fager officiating. Interment will be held at PleasantGrove Memorial Park, Murphysboro. Friends may call from 5 until 7 p.m., 11, 2001 at the funeral home. Grace was born in Union County, to Logan B. and Hannah (Bauer) Roberts. She married Gordon Rees on May 2, 1936 at Lebanon, 111. He preceded her in death on June 19, 1988. Her parents, three brothers, and one sister, and one great grandchild also preceded her indeath.

Survivors include, one son, James R. Rees of Escondido, two grandsons; five greatgrandchildren; and two sisters, Naomi Manus of Centralia, 111. and Velma Becker of Downers-Grove, 111. Grace was a practicing R.N. for 47 years, member of the First United Methodist Church, Desoto, the AARP; Carbondale Senior Citizens.

She was a devoted wife and mother. Barbara S. Tootie' Myers WOLF LAKE Barbara S. "Tootie" Myers, 64, of Wolf Lake died at 1:15 p.m. Thursday, Feb.

8, 2001. the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo. She wa born May 23, 1936, at Anna, the daughter of Fred and Myrtle (Dover) Modglin. She was married to Richard A "Dick" Myers on June 6, 1954, at Wolf Lake.

Mrs. Myers is survived by her husband, Dick Myers of Wolf Lake; a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Chuck McDaniel of Wolf Lake; two grandchildren, Jessica and Taylor McDaniel of Wolf Lake; others relatives; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and three children, Scotty Wayne, Kathy and Carrie. Mrs. Myers was a member of the Wolf Lake United Methodist Church.

Funeral services for Barbara S. "Tootie" Myers will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, in the Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna, with the Rev. John Prather officiating.

Interment will be in the Anna Cemetery. Friends may call at the Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday and on Sunday until the funeral hour. Irene Rush CAIRO Irene Caldwell Rush, 86, died at 11:05 p.m. Friday, Feb.

2, 2001, at the Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Everdale Missionary Baptist Church in Cairo, with the Rev. Johnny Posey Sr. officiating.

Britton was the daughter of Emmett Carlton and Lil-lie May Com-pton Carlton. Her mother died in 1918, and Mrs. Brit Britton ton was raised by her father and stepmother Estella Harper Carlton in Benton. Mrs. Britton was a 1934 graduate of Benton Township High School.

She married Carl O. Britton in Evansville, on Dec. 31, 1938. Mrs. Britton was a homemak-er, who with her husband raised three children in Effingham.

She was a long-time member of the Centenary United Methodist Church in Effingham and for the past several years attended the First United Methodist Church in Carbondale. Mrs. Britton was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother, Emmett Gene Carlton. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Margaret Carlton of Washington, by her three children and their spouses, Donald and Janice Britton of Grand Rapids, Janet and Edward Bilderback of El Centro, and Thomas and Pamela Britton of Carbondale; by her five grandsons, Eric Britton of Indianapolis, Ty Wilson Bilderback and his wife Heather of Fayetteville, Chip Carlton Bilderback ofHat- tiesburg, Douglas Clark and his wife Jennifer of Carbondale, and Jason Clark of Princeton, N.J.; and by one great-granddaughter, Bailey Ryanne Clark of Carbondale. Graveside services will be held at 11 Monday, Feb.

Aden Summers BENTON Aden Summers, age 92, of Benton, died at 12:20 am. Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at his home.

He was born in Akin, on Oct. 19, 1908, the son of Green and Damaris (Summers) Summers. On Nov. 30, 1933, in Raleigh, he married Christena Johnson and she survives. Mr.

Summers was a longtime member of the Knob Prairie Baptist Church. He was a Republican County Chairman for 20 years. He was a Precinct Committeeman for 40 years. He worked for 18 years as an Oil Inspector for the State of Illinois. Mr.

Summers, along with his wife, owned and operated Summers Real Estate and Insurance in Benton for many years. He is survived bv his wife, Christena Summers of Benton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sheral and Charlie Turner of Duncanville, Texas and Roberta and Burton Wills of Benton; one son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Lynn Summers of Gallatin, seven grandchildren and spouses, Michelle and Fred Lauer, Stacey and Donnie Martin, R. Dale Jackson, Andrea and Ron Self, Julie and Ron Whaley, Tim and Kelly Wills and Brad and Sandra Wills; nine great-grandchildren, Katelyn Lauer, Conner Martin, Bronwyn Self, Skyler Self, Megan Whaley, Molly Whaley, Jordan Wills, Mason Wills, Austin Wills. Mr. Summers was preceded in death by his parents, son, Charles Aden Summers, three sisters, Grace Shaw, Stella Williams and Hattie Hickey, six brothers, Herbert Summers, Frank Summers, Roy Summers, Ray Summers, Seebern Summers and Chalon Summers.

Mrs. Sarko worked at different dress factories. She was a member of Benton United Methodist Church. She was born July 3, 1916, in West Frankfort to Frank and Clemmer (Newman) Sanders. She married John Sarko, and he prededed her in death.

Survivors include two stepsons and their wives, Danny and Mary Sarko of Arizona and Fred and Irmgard Sarko of Decatur, one nephew and his wife, Frank and Connie Fegan of Springfield; two nieces and their husbands, Linda and Dick Singer and Jane and Larry Parrish, all of St. Louis; and one sister, Ella Hrvol of Buckner. Her parents and one sister also preceded her in death. Odysseus T. Tsangoulis CARBONDALE Odysseus T.

Tsangoulis, of St. Louis, formerly of Carbondale died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001. Mr. Tsangoulis was the owner of The Carbondale Shoe Repair in Carbondale for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Merope (nee Karagianis) Tsangoulis; his children, Ted (Glenna) Sanlis and Harriet (Rip) Kastaris; and grandchildren, Georgia, Merope, Katy, Robert and Peter. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday with a Trisagion service at 7 p.m. at Hoffmeister Colonial Mortuary, 6464 Chippewa at Watson, St. Louis.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 am. at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 1755 Des Peres under the direction of Lee Swallows of the Hoffmeister Colonial Mortuary. Interment will be at St. Matthew's Cemetery in St. Louis.

Helen Eisenhauer MURPHYSBORO Helen Eisenhauer, 91, of Danville, formerly of Murphysboro, died 12:20 am. Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, in Danville Nursing and Rehab Residence. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in St.

Andrew Church, with Father Gary Gummersheimer officiating. Burial will be in St. Andrew Cemetey. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday and until 1:45 p.m.
