vai i fv Nfws Friday December 28 2001 Page B6 Sports Torch Relay Schedule of Events FRIDAY ft SATURDAY DEC 28th29th SALT LAKE 2002 OL: OLYMPIC TORCH RELAY Arrival and departure times of the torch subject to change Staff Reports Norwich Three Suggested Viewing Areas: 1) Collis Center Hanover 2) Colburn Park Lebanon 3) Lyman Point Park WRJ Music Center Chorus including the singing of the Olympic Torch theme Carry the Flame by the chorus as well as a special presentation from SLOC representatives to Lebanon Mayor Ralph Akins and other entertainment and interactive displays The highlight of the evening will be the lighting of a community cauldron with the Olympic torch symbolic of the presence in the Upper Valley The torch is scheduled to arrive in Qdbum Park at around 8 pm after the events at Stons HilL Other features of the Colburn Park gala arc a display of Olympic memorabilia in Lebanon City Hall and a reception following' the gala with Upper Valley Olympians in the Lebanon Opera House The Lebanon -Lions Club and the Riverside Rotary Club will provide refreshments As parking will be limited and traffic will be rerouted around Colburn Park today shuttle buses will be available to Colburn Park from selected sites around the Upper Val- ley The visit of the Olympic torch to the Upper Valley continues tomorrow when the relay leaves West Lebanon at 7 am from the Wal-Mart parking lot and moves into Vermont The torch carried by a member of Abenaki Indian tribe will be paddled in a native canoe from West Lebanon across the Connecticut River to Lyman Point Park in White River Junction There a ceremony welcoming the torch to the Green Mountain State will be held in the handstand at approximately T30 am Refreshments will be available and the fust 100 participants will1 receive an authentic Salt Lake dympic Torch Relay pin After running through downtown White River Junction the relay will proceed north to Wilder where the torch will be returned to its motorcade for Hanover Lebanon and Hartford While in the valley it will be carried by 35 Vermont and New Hampshire residents chosen by the Salt Lake Olympic Committee (SLOC) and Olympic Torch Relay sponsors Coia-Colaand Chevrolet Several events and celebrations are scheduled to commemorate the arrival beginning in Hanover this afternoon The town will hold a Fair' on the Dartmouth Green beginning at 5 pm The fair will include children's games music provided by Versatile Sound Productions snack food and beverages The fair culminates with the arrival of the Olympic torch for a brief welcoming ceremony on the steps of College Hall across from the Green shortly after 6 pm (The actual arrival and departure times of the Olympic torch along its route through the Upper Valley are subject to change For through Hanover it's on to Lebanon for an end-of-day celebration at Storts Hill Ski Area and in the city's Col bum Park At around 230 pm the torch relay is scheduled to arrive at Stores Hill where the Olympic torch will be part of a torchlight parade from the tap of the hill to the 25-meter ski jump There the torch will fly off the jump carried by a Lebanon Outing Club competitor before the relay continues uptown to Colburn Paric An Olympic celebration sponsored by SLOC Coke and Chevy is scheduled to begin in the park at 630 pm time Upper Valley radio personality Ray Reed will emcee the
