Mother-daughter tea to be held Thurs., July 28 ST. JOE-Riverdale Rustlers Unit land 11 will have their annual Mother-Daughter tea and Achievement Day on Thursday, July 28, at 1:30 p.m., with all ladies and girls from fifth grade as special guests. Vicki, Jane and Barbara McGuire, Lenora Hilbert and Sandy Wagner and their mothers will be hostesses. Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Kramer and Ann, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Thilges Jr. and family and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Thilges Sr. all from St. Joe, and Adelle Faber of West Bend, spent Sunday with Sister M. Redempta OSF at Briar Cliff College, Sioux City. Sister M. Redempta is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kramer. Following summer school at Briar Cliff, she will spend a week at Mt. St. Francis Convent in Dubuque before returning to St. Christophers, Mid- lothiem, 111., a suburb of Chicago where she was an eighth grade teacher. Mrs. Ed Andrelinas, Annette and Edward of Medicine Lake, Montana, and Mrs. Gilbert G. Koch, Michelle, Jeffery and Gilbert from Helena, Montana, visited in St. Joe with relatives and friends from Monday to Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Andreasen, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Andreasen and Cecelia Scott went to visit a brother, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Andreasen. A son, Mr. and Mrs. Don Andreasen and family of Huntington, CaL, were also visiting there. They returned home Thursday. On the way home, they visited the Meramec Caverns, Bridal Cave at Stanton, Mo., the world's only 5-story cave. Portland Social Club met July 14 in the home of Ella Lampe, with ten members present. Roll call was: What I did the Fourth. Shirley Lovstad was in charge of fun time. Bingo was played, all winning prizes. Mrs. Minnie Samuelson and Sharon were guests. There will be no August meeting, A Picnic was planned for the September meeting at the Portland, Community Hall. Mrs. Frank Becker left Sunday for Denver, Colo., where she will spend a week with her sister, Mrs. Robert Collett and family. The Colletts are expecting an exchange student from Japan. Mrs. Becker will assist her sister in getting readv Franklin Becker left Monday for 4-H Camp at Madrid. He will return Wednesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Easton of Clear Lake were Sunday dinner guests in the Howard Sparks home. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Burgess, Tom and Mary of Mound City, Mo. were recent visitors and supper guests in the Howard Sparks home. Mr. Burgess will be remembered as a former manager of the Union Slough. Mr. and Mrs. Billy Christensen and family visited Mrs, Christensen's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Finley at Armstrong. Mr. and Mrs. Johny H. Harms and family attended a family get together, supper and boating at Emmet sburg. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Grosser and baby of West Bend were Sunday supper guests in the George Hix home. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. Timer Harms and family of Titonka and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hix and family of Sexton. Mrs. Victor Fitch and Judy were afternoon visitors. Mr. and Mrs. Ray McWhorter flew to Okoboji Sunday for a Flying Farmer's district meeting and dinner. Absent: Elbert. Minutes of last meeting were approved. J. Straub, attorney-at-law, representing John Forbes, visited with the council about existing conditions in the administration of the local airport. After some discussion the council agreed to meet with the Airport Commission. Mr. Mold and Mr. McMahon, officers of the Iowa State Bank, came before the council to request additional hooded meters. It was agreed to install two six- minute meters on the east side of the bank. East End Grocery Class C beer permit was approved. Special meeting to study the 1967 budget for the City of Algona was set for July 20, 1966 at 7:00 p. m. City Clerk was authorized to purchase a blower to be used for smoke testing on sewer lines. Cost $230.25. Letter read from Mr. Anderson, urban engineer, concerning the improvement of highway 169 between Oak and Jones intersection and State and Phillips street intersection. Said letter outlined the requirements of the city when this project would be done. Letter was read from the Mason City JayCees inviting the Mayor to attend the dedication of the new airport terminal.
