NBC later speculated that a commercial revealing the winners of a sweepstakes that ran during CBS' news broadcast was responsible for the glitch. Last week, NBC's news rated 12.9 with a 23 share of the audience, CBS had a 12.3 rating and a 22 share and ABC had a rating of 11.3 and a 20 share. The top 10 prime-time shows out of the 74 rated last week were: Cosby, Family Ties, Cheers, Murder, She Wrote, Night Court, 60 Minutes, Golden Girls, Moonlighting, The Two Mrs. Gren-villes and Growing Pains. Jaffe pronounced it a "fairly typical week," although he said NBC was especially pleased with per- formances by its Sunday night lineup, Our House, Easy Street and Valerie, all of which had their best ratings performances since November.

He also said part one of the two-part The Two Mrs. Grenvilles, based on the Dominlck Dunne book and starring Ann-Margret, did better than NBC had expected, getting a rating of 23.4 and a 36 share. He also noted that L.A. Law bested its competition Thursday, Knots Landing, and was in the top 20. It had a rating of 18.8 to the 16.1 for Knots.

The lowest-rated shows, from the bottom, were: Our World, Dads, Gung Ho, Shell Game, Spenser: For Hire, Hard Copy, Wizard, Ohara, Sledge Hammer! and Outlaws. NBC has won 17 of the 20 weeks in the season to date, coming in second to CBS three times. NBC won last week with an average rating of 17.9, CBS had 15.6 and ABC 14.1. NBC's season-to-date average is 17.9, CBS' is 16.1 and ABC's is 14.2. NBC Nightly News had the highest news ratings for the week ending Feb. 6.

She traces her devotion to the first time she watched "The Mouse That Jack Built," a cartoon that portrayed Benny as a mouse trying to sniff out a cheap place to take his wife.
