We take pleasure in transferring the effects, mentioned to your Society, and are satisfied that a proper and judicious disposition will be made of them for tho benefit of our noble and patriotic volunteers, who have gono forth in defence of our homes and firesides, our lives and our liberties. Highly important advices have been received from Cuba. The Spanish war steamer Leone, was waiting at Cadiz for the result of the Cabinet conference relative to the European coalition against Mexico, that advices of the ultimatum of Spain might be immediately despatched to the Governor General of Cuba. In the meantime an expedition is being fitted out at Havana for Mexico, under pretext of going to San Domingo. The expedition consists of six batteries of howitzers and 10,000 men, and will be ready to start by tho latter part of next month. It is given out that Spain is taking step3 against Mexico on her own responsibility, but the advices which I have access to state definitely that the English and French are to send the quota of men as well as co-operate with their fleets in the gulf.

The whole country will be startled with the extent of the movement, and the end in view, tho regulation of Mexico, is its least important object. It. looks further North. Arrival or tlic Bavaria. Cape Race, Oct.

The Richmond Ixaminer says The Tankees at Hatteras havo cut a canal across the point on which the fort is erected, and above the latter, to assist in keeping away tha Confederate troops. The water flows very rapidly through this dyke, which is thereby deepening and widening, and it is probably the small island on which the fortification is built will bo entirely swept away by the stoims which are common in that locality, especially in the winter. The fortifications of Roanoke Island.

twenty-five miles distant from Hattcras, are progrcssiogiapidly, and vigorous and judicious measures are in progress to prevent any further intrusion by the Federal Vandal upon the soil of the Old North State. Manufacture of Small Arms. We learn that the manuacture of now arms will soon be commenced at the arsenal at Fayettville, in North Carolina. Messrs. Talbot Brother, of this city, are now manufacturing two steam engines for the Armory Works at Fayetteville They are to be horizontal, high pressure, of seventy-five horsepower each.

The Armory buildings at Fayetteville are also to be enlarged to make them commodbus enough for the reception of all tha machinery and to add to them a rifle factory. A large force is now engaged in altering old flint lock guns to percussion, making very efficient weapons. Some of Hall's breach-loadiog rifles have been altered to carbines They are said to make an excellent gun for cavalry service. Richmond Examiner. rtclislous Services.
