A correspondent nt Jacksboro' writes that a cave in the Cumberland mountains has been explored recently by a party from that place. It was found to be large, and filled with beautiful stalactites and white.

A sweet potato patch on Broad street is wonderfully suggestive of rural scenes. An old lady was seen digging her Irish potatoes with a spade. Tucker, Clerk of the County Court et Blount County, which occurred at Mnryville, on Sabbath last, after a protracted illness of several weeks duration. In bis death the county has lost the services of a faithful public officer, an aged mother a kind and obedient son, and a wile a faithful and devout husband. He was elected to the responsible position he held in lXi, by large majorit', and ro-clecttd arge majority in 1870. He enjoyed the con-n lencc and esteem of all who knew Hi remains were interred in the burial ground of tne friends on Monday. Mr.

CoyyER, Bridge Commissioners. The Cemmissioners met at the office of Caldwell, Esq. The following gentlemen were present: V. A. Conner, A.

Caldwell, iuat. Nelson, John Tunnel, Eli Hixon and Julius Ochs, Mr. John L. Moses was absent, being out of tne city. A temporary organization was effected by electing.

Moses Treasurer, A committee consisting of M. Nelson, Eli Hixon and Julies Ochs was appointed to employ an engineer to examine the different points sug gested for the location of the bridge and make an estimate of the probable cost at each point and to report to the Commissioners at as early a date as practicable. Messrs. Caldwell. John Moses aud John Tunnell were appointed a committee to correspond with dmerent bridge builders and ascertain prices, There being nothing further, the meeting adjourned subject to the call of the chairman.

Rains. The rain came at last in the forenoon yesterday (the farmer's sign proved true, didn't it?) and for gomo time fell heavily. At the time we supposed the rain to be general, and the farmers everywhere made glad; but when the Knoxville and Kentucky train arrived wo learned that it extended only four or five miles on the northwest.1 From passengers on the eastern train atone o'clock, we understood that there was no rain up the road, except a slight sprinkle near On the wesCr.iin is said to have fallen at Chattanooga and but not nearer un til within a few miles of this place. Thcio was a good rain at LareyviIIe, the pres ent terminus of the Knoxville and Kentucky railroad, at about three o'clock yesterday morning, and rain was also falling at Coal Creek, when the morning train came down by that place at half-past seven but all was dry alter leaving Clinton until the train arrived at Black Oak ridge, four and a half miles from4town. Downright Meanness, We learn that a poor cripple boy who goes about the streets on crutches, and tries to make an honest living by selling apples and peaches, was vesterdav robbed ot two dollars by some scoundrel.

The boy keeps watermelons to sell in a nook between two houses near Kinzel's bakery. He had sold the person who robbed him two melons, and after the melons were eaten, the boy could not make the change which was required in settling, and trusted the knave -m 1 1 1.. with a two dollar bill be cnanged at tne next dour. He stepped otf, apparently for that purpose, and that is the last the boy has seen of the man or his money. Loral There was another hog fight on 3Iarket Square yesterday.

Hoss and Rev. Mr. Gray. We cheerfully give place to correction as to "difficulty in bar room, at or near the Lamar House, on Saturday night." We learn that it not in oither of the bars of that vicinity. The grade of Main street, near the bridge over First Crook, is being improved.

A colored child five vears old was caught, after a race of upward of a mile, near the Roll ing Mill yesterday afternoon, who stated that he had run away, and was afraid he would be killed if he went back home, lhat juvenile won't be likely to repeat his fits of absence. The Turners. The members of the Turn Verein rallied in force at their hall last evening, notwithstanding the non-arrival of Messrs. Kuhrn and Unger, from Nashville. The' Turners went through the usual gymnastic exercises, after which the band discoursed the sweetest music, and tho ladies being present in huge numbers, the floor was soon tilled with dancers, who tripped the "light fantastic" until Terpsichore herself would have been satisfied.

The gentlemen from Nashville were expected on the train at 2 A. and a committee was appointed to escort them to the hall. ville Items. The weather is exceedingly warm, the roads dusty and farmers wanting rain. Colonel J.

C. Fager, a well known citizen of Maryville.died iast Friday and was buried with Masonic honors on Saturday. Countv Court met Monday, but on account of the death of its clerk, Mr. R. C.

Tucker, no business was transacted, only to appoint a committee to draft resolutions and to adjourn till next Monday. The Holston Brass Band passed through Marvville last Thursday. Ferrary's "horns" attracted several of the Holston "horns" to his place of rendezvous, when the Holston 'horns went up and made a considerable racket, and Ferrary's "horns" went down, making a considerable gurgle. The band passed back Saturday. Cclcbrntiou at ireeneville.

I he Colored people of Greneville had a celebration at that place yesterday. A procession was formed in tho following order 1st Officer of the day, Sam Johnson, late a slave of President Johnson. 2d. Greencvillo Brass Band, in four horse wagon, horses suitably bedecked with flags, 3d. Citizens in wagons, buggies, carriages, on horseback and on foot.

Afterwards the colored Sabbath School of tho city, children also formed in procession, carrying the American flag in front. They all marched out from town some distance when they were addressed by ex-President Johnson, Col. Bob Crawford and others. President Johnson went out about 11 o'clock in a two horse buggy, in company with several other gentleman. The procession commenced moving at 9 o'clock down Irish street to Maine, and on to Tusculum which the speaking and picnic exercises were held.

Ganum Mynat; one case assault and battery, one misdemeanor and one rape. They were continued. To School Commissioners. The President of the Board of Education for the county desires that the Commissioners of the various district shsll complete their enumeration of the scholastic population before tho meeting at the court house on Saturday next.
