Of the en ire population of Philadelphia it Is estimated that about t-event j-flve per cent, are affected with nasal hypertrophies or nasal catarrh in forms of varying degrees cf severity, and of this proportion twenty-five per cent, are suffering from lung affections, while about the same number have throat troubles. In not a few cases persons are suffering from all the three complaints. Such was the astonishing statement made Saturday evening by Dr.

Isaac Barton, the well-known throat and nose specialist, while a number of anxious patients eat waiting in hie parlor to receive treatment. "I never knew anything like It before," continued the physician, "and the subject Is one of unusual Interest to medical scientists. I attribute the prevalence of these troubles to the change In onr climate." "That is the primary cause, though directly they are traceable to the epidemic of grip which started last year. The effect of this peculiar disease was to leave the mucous membranes in a delicate, highly sensitive state, making people very eusoeptiblo to cold In sudden changes ot temperature. Dr.

F. Woodbury, another of the physicians who. have given the subject special consideration, said: "I believe the prevalence of colds is due to the variable condition of the atmosphere, and the epidemic of grip some time ego. The influenza seems to have broken down the power of resistance to disease in most. persons.

I don't anticipate a recurrence of the grip. It Is still with us, though, and will doubtless remain until there is no su-ceptibie material left." '1 he above will Interest readers here, Dr. Eartcn being the gentleman wfco gave the organ recitals at tte First M. E. Church, and Dr.
