The statement that the Coxe-lleadlcg deal UcLeod In fighting trim, and that he meana to bust the combination, knock out the old peroentaga plan ot awarding the output and run the coal trade generally to suit himself, la not believed up this way for moment. A. well known operator said yesterday 'The Heading cannot afford to Indulge In any fanny business. It most have better prices lor coal If It wants to prosper, and this can not be done by a campaign ot bluster. The capacity of all the regions Is "40,000,000.

Ths market don't want 40,000.000. How then can the trade be conducted so as not to be ruined by overproduction? By a wise system of restriction, ot course, and Mr. IIoLeod knows this as well as I do. As to the Ooxe deal It may help the trade Ion know the LenlgH Valley could not manage JEckJey, probably the Beading will, It is to be hoped so at least. He has been getting oars during periods of restriction In order to keep him quiet and orderly, muon to the Injury of tne reet of us too, by the way, but now It Is hoped be will -etop his collieries when ordered to do so.

The Beading will find him hard to manage, of course, but the Inference Is that President HeLeod baa a wonderful Influence over him. "flow about folic? He has been an elephant on their hands for a long time. He has caused them annoyance and expense, and as to his tonnage during the busy seasons It will not 1 be missed, for there were not, enough cars to go around any now." "Is Mr. Coxe's ooal ot good quality?" "dome ot It is good and some very bad The Inferior grade is offered at low prices and it embarrasses other companies very much. Mr.
