Mr. Corning, who was the father of Mr. Frederick G. Corning, was at one time American Consul at Munich and was noted as an orator, historian and abolitionist as well as in the pulpit. Cameron Dr.

Henry De Haven; Pony, Montana, September 4. Dr. Cameron, who was a son of Mr. and Mrs. J.

Franklin Cameron, was one of the organizers of Troop of which he became surgeon, with the rank of lieutenant, upon the death of the late Dr. A. J. Skene. He was also a member of the Crescent Athletic Club.

Dr. Cameron leaves a widow, formerly Miss Edna Beam. Hinrichs Mr. Charles F. drowned off Coney Island, August 3a Mr.

Hinrichs was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. A. Hinrichs, and the grandson of the late Charles F.

A. Hinrichs. Moore Julia, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willis Mott Moore; 58 First place, September 2.

Smith was the widow of Alexander M. Smith and the mother of Mrs. J. A. Duyckinck, of 453 Henry street lighted at the outcome of the ladies singles in the tournament for the Hudson River championship, the final of which was played off on Labor Day at the Englewood Field Club and resulted in a victory for Mrs.

George Chapman, of Nyack, who defeated Mrs. Louis Coe, 6-2, 6-2. As this is Mrs. Chapman's third victory, she now becomes the permanent possessor of the trophy. Last Tuesday the open tournament at Nyack commenced, and continues throughout the week.

Tea is served on the lawn each afternoon, different ladies of the club presiding at the tea-tables. Those who officiated on the opening day were Mrs. Le Roy Frost, Mrs. Roe Bradley, Mrs. James Muir and Miss Ella L.

Mairs, while Wednesday afternoon Mrs. J. Du Pratt White, Mrs. Alfred Chiren, Mrs. Charles A.

Boody and Miss Jane Lutkins entertained, and on Friday afternoon Mrs. Sherwood Hard, Mrs. Morgan Mann Miss Helen Stewart were the hostesses. Last Wednesday morning a week ago Mrs. Van Wyck Rossiter was hostess of the card party at the club.

The prizes, a vase and a fan, were won by Miss Helen Stewart and Miss Maidie Osborne, respectively. AT the wedding of Miss Violetta E. Parfitt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter E.

Parfitt, of Bensonhurst, which will take place this week, Saturday, at the Parfitt summer home, "Lake Side Cottage," Bridgehampton, Long Island, Miss Ethelyn M. Parfitt, sister of the bride, will be the maid of honor, and Miss Annie E. Parfitt, Miss Mabel A. Parfitt, Miss Lillian Parfitt and Miss Lettie Leach, of Attlebpro, Massachusetts, the bridesmaids. There will also be a flower girl, Miss Amy Sheffield, and two pages, Master Walter Hubbard and Mr.

Frank Hubbard. Mr. Ellsworth Downs, of Bridgehampton, is to be the best man. THE marriage of Miss Gertrude Codtnan Parker in Boston late in August removed from that city a cousin of Mrs. Josiah T.

Marean's, who has been one of its most prominent belles. As the wife of Sir Gilbert Carter, K. M. the Governor of the Bahamas, she will be a decided acquisition to the social life of Nassau. Justice and Mrs.

Marean, who have returned to the Mount Washington Hotel, after a ten days' trip to the Rangeley Lakes and Rockland Breakwater, expect to leave the White Mountains for Brooklyn next Monday. AT the wedding of Miss Isabel Morrison West, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. West, to Mr.

William B. Jackson, in Pittsfield last week, Wednesday, Mrs. Maude Longmire Shirley was the matron of honor. Dr. and Mrs.

Frank West were also in Pittsfield for the wedding, which was a very large affair in the First Congregational Church. REGISTERED at the Grand Union, Saratoga, last week, were Mr. and Mrs. Horatio M. Adams, of Montgomery Mr.

and Mrs. George Nelson Lowrey, of Third street, are spending a fortnight at the United States Hotel. Mrs. William Frothingham Smith and the Misses Smith, of 258 Henry street, together with Miss Gertrude Munroe, of 209 Lincoln place, have left their country home at Arlington, Vermont, for a driving tour through the State, their itinerary calling for short visits at Lake St Catherine, Lake Bemossen, Sudbury, Brandon and Middlebury, whence they return to Arlington, by way of Rutland.
