Mrs. Henson was born Sept. 28, 1935, in Noxapater, to J.B.

and Millie (Loving) Hawthorne. She married John Henson in 1957 in Salem. Mrs. Henson worked in the rehabilitation department at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center. She was a member of the Mount Vernon Shiloh Baptist Church and the church usher board.

Surviving are her mother of Mount Vernon; two sisters, Emma Jean Hawthorne of Mount Vernon and Pauline Neal of Phoenix, six brothers, Oscar, Melvin and Johnnie Hawthorne all of Flint, Willie Hawthorne of Princeton, Ind, and Abraham and Nathaniel Hawthorne, both of Phoenix; and aunts, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and husband. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Shiloh Baptist Church, the Rev. A.L.

Three Du Quoin men were arrested and charged with burglary Friday stemming from an incident that occurred early Friday morning at a downtown business. Arrested were Shaun W. Ford, 18, charged with seven counts of burglary; Jerry W.

Goldman, 20, charged with seven counts of burglary; and Robert Charles McKinnies, 1 8, charged with burglary. The three are incarcerated in the Perry County Jail. The investigation is continuing. Mount Vernon On Friday, at about 2:34 p.m., an armed robbery occurred at Rusty's Traden Post, 1017 S. 10th St.

A single black male entered the business armed with a handgun and took an undetermined number of handguns from the owner. The owner was not harmed. The suspect left the area westbound on foot. Police State police Rebecca Belt, 34, of Ohio, received major injuries in a one-vehicle accident that occurred at 1:15 p.m.

Friday in the northbound entrance ramp on old Illinois 13. According to reports, Belt was northbound on the entrance ramp and while attempting to buckle her seat-belt, lost control of the car, ran off the road and overturned. She was transferred and admitted to Marion Memorial Hospital for treatment. She was listed in good condition at Marion Memorial Hospital Saturday night. A 42-year-old Pittsburg woman and her passenger received major injuries in a one-vehicle accident that occurred on Interstate 64 at mile post 68 at approximately 12:55 p.m.

Friday. Sharon McDonald and 15-year-old Joel McDonald were eastbound on Interstate 64 when she apparently fell asleep, causing her to run the median and overturn several times. He was an Army vet eran of World War II.

He was born May 7, 1921, in Marion to Leo Brannon and Ella (Spiller) Brannon. He married Charlotte Sweatland. She survives. Other survivors include two sons. David and Ronnie Brannon of Mur physboro; a foster daughter, Mary Dot Pinto of Carbondale; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Brannon of Murphysboro; one brother, Wilburn T.

She was born Sept. 27, 1929, in Akin to Wesley Odle and Edith (Legion) Odle. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker.

She was a member of Washington Avenue Baptist Church. She was born April 11, 1895, in McMinnville, to Christopher Columbus Hayes and Rebecca Elizabeth (Bluhm) Hayes. She married Rufus W. Smith on Sept. 21, 1913.

He died July 12, 1956. Survivors include one son, Valice Smith of Marion; one daughter, Ruth Smith of Johnston City; one sister, Ethel Gaddis of Johnston City; seven grandchildren; 10 greatgrandchildren; and two great-greatgrandchildren. Two daughters, four brothers and three sisters also preceded her in death. MURPHYSBORO Lee Roy Rogers, 6 1 of Route 1 Murphysbo ro, died at 5 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 1991, at home.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Pettett Funeral Home, the Rev. H.C. Lawrence officiating. Burial will be in East Fork Cemetery in West Frankfort.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday and until 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Rogers had worked for 26 years at Menard Correctional Center.

He retired as a sergeant. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was born Sept. 22, 1929, in Supply, to Silas C. Rogers and Clara (Stagner) Rogers.

He married Charolette Sue Weath-erford. She survives. Other survivors include one son, the Rev. Marty Rogers of Murphy sboro; one daughter, Tonya Nelson of Belleville; two stepdaughters, Ve-neta Louise Bryant and Valerie Sue Bryant, both of Murphysboro; four grandchildren; one stepgrandson; two brothers, Elmer Rogers of Murphysboro and Dearl Rogers of Anna; and two sisters, Margarite Jennings of Anna and Marie Hazelwood of Tamms. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Roy Shelia Korando; one sister, Opal Parkins; and two brothers, Ora and Normal Rogers.

Mabel Cash CARRIER MILLS Mabel Cash, 80, of 910 N. Mill died at 3:30 p.m. Friday, June 14, 1991, at home. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Bankston Cemetery north of Carrier Mills.

There will be no visitation. Thornton-Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Cash had previously requested that no flowers be sent. Lizzie McCuan BELKNAP Lizzie McCuan, 89, of Belknap, died at 11:45 a.m.

Friday, June 14, 1991, in Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Wilson Funeral Home in Kar-nak, with burial in Masonic Cemetery in Belknap. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Lois Power CARTERVILLE Lois Lindsey Power, 81, of Houston, Texas, and a former resident of Carterville, died Nov. 21, 1990, near Houston. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Elkville Cemetery. Neal Funeral Home in Du Quoin is in charge of arrangements.

Claude Jones MOUNT VERNON Claude W. Jones, 71, of Mount Vernon, died at 6:43 a.m. Friday, June 14, 1991, in Good Samaritan Regional Health Center. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today in updyke cemetery.

Lester Fear ANNA Lester P. Fear, 76, of Anna died at 9:13 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 1991, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Arrangements are incomplete at Lutz Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna. William Preston CARTERVILLE William Plummer Preston, 61, of 205 Brown died Saturday, June 15, 1991, at home.

Services will be at a later date. Riggin-Pillatsch Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Robert Runnels MOUNT VERNON Robert W. Runnels, 57, of Lakewood, and a former resident of Mount Ver non, died at 1 1 a.m. Thursday, June 13, 1991, at home.

Arrangements are incomplete at Hughey Funeral Home. brilliant young man who suffered a stalled rise to stardom. As an aspiring music promoter, he auditioned young black talent as the bodies of young blacks were being found across the city. "A very unfortunate coincidence," Williams said, denying that he knew any of the victims. "If you look at the case group, you'll see no serial killer," he said.

"You didn't have one general pattern, (but) two or three subgroups with several suspects." Williams father, Homer, said he still has the 1970 Chevrolet Concourse station wagon police said his son used to dump bodies. He said he is saving it for his son. "How they railroaded that poor boy is unbelievable," he said. "They were trying to cover things up Atlanta was in turmoil." AVA Bertha B. Manor, 84, of Ava died in the home of her daugh ter-in-law, Shirley Manor of Steele- ville, at 10:35 a.m.

Saturday, June 15, 1991. Mrs. Manor was born Feb. 13, 1907, in Murphysboro to James M. and Cora (Williamson) Bartlett.

Mrs. Manor was a retired nurse's aide. She had worked at the Jackson Countv Countv Nursing Home in Murphysboro. She married Albert D. Manor on Aug.

10, 1927, in Murphysboro. He died Aug. 2, 1952. She was a member of the Mission ary Baptist Church in Ava. Services will be at 2 p.m.

Harry Thomas Freeman MARION Harry Thomas Freeman, 87, of Marion, died at 9:15 p.m. Friday, June 14, 1991, in his daughter's residence in Marion. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m.

62959. Mr. Freeman had worked as a gardener. He was a Pentecostal by belief. He was born Jan.

19, 1904, in Paris, 111., to William Harry Freeman and Anna (Heinrichs) Freeman. He married Alice L. Lanig. She died July 3, 1980. Survivors include one son, Harry W.

Freeman of St. Louis; two daughters, Grace Smith of St. Louis and Mrs. Jesse (Florence) Berry of Marion; 31 grandchildren; several greatgrandchildren; several great-greatgrandchildren; and a half-brother, James Shrum of Carthage. His parents, one sister, and one daughter, Blanche Breeding, also preceded him in death.

Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion is in charge of arrangements. Albert Zacheis OAKDALE Albert W. Zacheis, 89, of Route 1, Oakdale, died at 5:53 p.m. Friday, June 14, 1991, in the Washington County Hospital in Nashville. Services will be at 11 a.m.

Arrangments are incomplete at Wilson Funeral Home in Marion. decade, Williams told the newspaper by telephone he believes he'll eventually be exonerated.

"I know eventually that I'm gonna get out," Williams said. "If we get an open-minded court, we've got a pretty good chance." If he is released, he said he may become a minister. Williams is scheduled to appear in court in September to seek a new trial. In the appeal, Williams' attorneys say suspected Ku Klux Klansmen might have committed at least 10 of the murders. Williams' attorneys contend that prosecutors withheld evidence, including a Georgia Bureau of Information probe of the Klan.

They say a highly regarded police informant reported Klan involvement in one of the murders attributed to Williams. James "Tie Dye" McNew HERRIN James "Tie Dye" McNew, 67, of Herrin died at noon Friday, June 14, 1991, in St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. Services will be at noon Monday in Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home, the Rev. J.D. McCarty officiating.

Burial will be in Herrin City Ceme tery. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. McNew was retired from Al len Industries.

He was a World War II veteran. He was born Feb. 8, 1924, in Car- terville to Arthur and Emma (Grif fith) McNew. He married Gloria Bourland on Feb. 6, 1942, in Morganfield, Ky.

She survives. Other survivors include two sons, James H. and Terry L. McNew, both of Herrin; one daughter, Mrs. Randall (Dina) Billingsley of Herrin; three brothers, Don and Tim McNew of Granite City and Ray McNew of Nashville, two sisters, Rose Warren of Granite City and Lucille Barwick of Farmington, his mother, of the Shawnee Nursing Center in Herrin; and two grandchildren, Justin Billingsley and Abbie McNew.

He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers. Frankie M. Chaney MARION Frankie M. Chaney, 83, of Marion, died at 2:50 a.m. Sat urday, June 15, 1991, in Marion Me morial Hospital.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Mon day in Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, the Rev. James E. Bryant of ficiating. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Chaney was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

She was born Nov. 9, 1907, in Stonefort to Frank Hall and Sarah (Parson) Hall. She married T. Rufus Chaney on April 5, 1924. He survives.

Other survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Jeri Chaney of Marion; two grandchildren, Mrs. Kris (Pam) Elliott of Edwardsville and Chris Chaney of Marion; and one great-grandchild, Ryan Elliott of Edwardsville. Two brothers and one sister pre ceded her in death. Clarence Bradford CARRIER MILLS Clarence Bradford, 72, of East Furlong Street, died at 5:12 a.m. Friday, June 14, 1991, in the Marion Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tues day in Thornton-Feltv Funeral Home, with burial in Lakeview Cemetery in Carrier Mills. Visitation will be trom 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. They began finding bodies that July and, by May 1981, 28 young blacks mostly black children had been found murdered.

Most of the victims were suffocated, and a 29th is still missing. A 30th victim was added to the list during Williams' trial when fibers experts linked him to Williams. Williams was arrested in June 1981, convicted eight months later of killing Nathaniel Carter, 27, and Jimmy Ray Payne, 21, and sentenced to two consecutive life terms. He will be eligible for parole in 1996. He was implicated in 22 other killings, and police closed the cases.

Primary evidence came from fiber experts, who linked fibers found in Williams' home and car to those found on some of the bodies.
