evangelical Chris tian workers at a meeting held in Chicago on the 21st of September have issued a call for a day of humiliation fasting and prayer on the Sib of October The Methodist minion at IVu-Mar ou Friday of last week was attended by about four thousand persons and was a great success All we rd greatly dellghtrd with the services of the day It was estlmitBd that there were about seven thonsand persons in attendace at the Salvation Army camp at Rhode's prove near Kaufman's station on Sunday last Sunday night was the last night and they closed with acamp fire and farewell march tn Trinity Episcopal church the regular meeting of the Woman's Auxiliary will be held this (Friday) evening at which time all boxes should be returued Beginning with October evening prayer Sunday will be changed from 7:30 to 7 o'clock and all OUR NATION IN PERIL Wholesale Robbery or Our TYIi Ftrm Products rv So Low Id Price and Lrtbor Scwrce Ht Starvation The Future Worse The Kannettsburg Silver Club has issued the following circular: Farmers Laborers Patriot our beloved nation is in peril to day on account of the Gold standard The international Gold Syndicate has cornered the cold of the world and is playiug with the Treasury to our ruin As managed by the past and present Treasurers a representative of the Gold Syndicate could go to the Treasury with fifty millions of dollars of our Treasury notes (for which silver was laid up and is now in the Treasury expressly fur their re-demptlunt and demand fifty millions of dollars in gold which would be paid over ou receipt of the notes This would run the nation's gold-reserve below one hundred millions of dollars Then when issued the representative of the Gold Syndicate would take up these interest bearing bonds and pay for them with the same gold that be drew out of the Treasury As the notes received at the Treasury are again paid out for public expeuses they are ready to come In again to be redeemed aud heuce the endless chain of bond Issues Already our Treasury has been depleted four times in this way and we have been bonded to the extent of two hundred and sixty-two millions of dollars The Republican Party does not condemn this robbery They uphold it and if McKinley Is elected it will be contluued and doubtless cost this nation more than the lour years of the War of the Rebellion It may cost us two hundred millions more before the present admiuia ration is mustered out The great in tlow of gold from Europe the past few weeks is not without purpose We will find out its purpose after election day If you do not understand this subject look it up These endless bond these wholesale robberies by the Bankers and Syndicates imperils the life of our nation They will make us all slaves to the money power if we let them continue The Rise of Gold Again the craving and hoarding of gold has made gold scarce None is in circulation now and its scarcity Is making it more valuable every day You know the time when three pecks of wheat would buy a dollar of money Later you had to give a bushel and a half of wheat for a dollar Aod now for several years a dollnr is worlh nearly two bushels of wheat The same is true of other farm products These prices are not due to overproduction but lo the rise In the value of gold At these prices the cropper does not earn more than ten cents per day and boarding for toiling from dawn until dark and the farmi who owns his farm does not earn more than twenty-five cents per day after his taxes and expenses of repairs etc are paid The man who has bis farm mortgaged ia not paying expenses At the same time we have seen labor similarly reduced Formerly the farm hand got one dollar per day then seventy-five cents then sixty cents and now fifty cents and even at these wages he is making twice as' much as the employing farmer If the sole Gold standard continues it will not be long till the farmer will have to give four bushels of wheat for a dollar and the laborer four days of work for a dollar and he will bo able to get but little work at that Thousands of laborers era out of work at present and if the gold standard continues millions will be idle The millions of farmers are to-day laboring at less than pauper wages and the system if continued Is bound to bring all laborfn to less than what we call pauper's wages Farmers Laborers this is not a false alarm These facts stare us in the face today Investigate You will find them true The cause of hard times ia still at work Shall we continue to allow the wholesale robbery of our National Treasury? Shall we continue the financial policy that lias brought this calamity upon us? That "Fifty Cent Farmers there is such a thing as a fifty-cent bushel of wheat You know that to your sorrow But there never was and never will be such a thing as a fifty cent silver dollar Those who talk about fifty cout sliver dollars are either uninformed on the monetary conditions of the world or have "an axe to grind" Study the question See the official statistics of the world's products Look up the matter for yourself They will appeal to every reasoning mind A allver dollar cannot depreciate It will always be worth one hundred cents The Fannettsbitra Silver Every Saturday evening the Fannettsburg Silver Club meets iu this township to discuss these subjects On Oct 3d 1800 the meeting will be at the School house in Fannettsburg opening at 7:30 o'clock Come and bear You are earnestly and cordially invited Democrats Republicans and ail who are Interested in a levival of trade aud better prices for pioduets and labor should not hesitate to come The discussions are iustruet-ivc and entertaining fIiPHANS' COL'UT SLE OF UEAL 8 ATI' DAY OCT 10TH By virtue of an order or the Orphans' Court of Franklin County Penna tho undersigned administrator of Sarah Hirgins late of Peters
