Bill Miller Ends Career At Findlay FINDLAY After four years as a starter at Findlay College, defensive tackle Biil Miller will be hanging up his football spikes and heading back to the Salem area with hopes of finding a coaching job. Miller, a 5-11, 215-pounder Salem graduate, was a defensive mainstay for the Oilers, who finished with a 63 record and as champions of the Hoosier- Buckeye League in 1976 Bill was one of the few bright spots in the Findlay College football program during his first three years as a starter, despite finishes of 1-9, 3-7 and 2-8 In his sophomore and junior seasons he was named the Defensive Lineman of the Year" and gained all-conference and all-district honors both seasons. At the conclusion of his junior year he was named a first all-NAIA defensive and honorabl ntionasa small college All-American. Also in his junior season, Findlay hired former Warren Western Reserve football coach Dick Strahm. who began reconstructing Oiler football.

In 1976, the Oilers turned in their best won-loss record in over 10 seasons and gained national acclaim with a fourth-ranked offense that averaged 312.8 yards per game.Over 17 individual and team records fell, including a new defensive rushing mark of 870 yards for the season. Snoddy, Weingart Foul Shots Pace W. Branch By STEVE STEER News Sports Reporter West Branch used some key foul shots by Dave Snoddy and Jerry Weingart in the closing seconds of game to eke out a 58-54 victory over Poland.

The Warriors stalled the ball for nearly one minute, clinging to a precarious two-point lead, when Snoddy was fouled with 18 seconds left in the game. The senior co-captain then calmly stepped to the free throw line and tossed in both ends of a one- and-one to up the lead to four. After Mark Cosma grabbed a missed Bulldog shot, teammate Jerry Weingart was fouled with five seconds left and he too hit both free throws to ice the victory. The win was the third straight Mahoning Valley Conference victory for West Branch who upped its league record to 5-3 and solidify its hold on third place. It was sixth loss in eight conference outings.

Coach McCosky does a fine job and a good The game had its share of excitement from the very beginning. After Dave Snoddy put the Warriors on top 2-0 he fouled Dave Shirey at the other end of the court.

Warrior head coach Bob McCoskey was then slapped with a technical for protesting too loudly. West Branch lengthened its lead to 14-9 when the Warriors again were slapped with a technical. Sophomore Andy Herbert had switched numbers against Canfield Tuesday, but the Warriors failed to inform the scorekeeper that he would again be wearing his usual uniform and were called for the technical foul. After all that West Branch still held a four-point lead but Poland hit the final two shots of the quarter to knot the score at 16-all after one period of play. Poland opened the second quarter by holding onto the ball for nearly three minutes to try to force the Warriors out of their zone defense.

Finally with 5:08 left in the quarter Mark Cosma fouled Dave Hudoba, who sank both foul shots to give the Bulldogs their first lead of the night, 18-16. The two teams exchanged baskets for the rest of the half until Mark Pavicic sank one of two free throws to enable the Bulldogs to take a 29-28 lead into the lockerroom at halftime. West Branch exploded from the lockerroom in the second half, scoring the first nine points of the third quarter for a 39-31 advantage. They took their biggest lead of the evening midway through the quarter 4534. West Branch grabbed an early 49-40 lead in the final period.

The Bulldogs, however, reeled off 10 straight points to take a one point lead, 50-49 Steve Beck hit a foul shot to tie the game. Then Weingart hit two foul shots, followed by a driving lay-up by Beck to give the a 54-50 lead. Dave Shirey hit a shot to pull the within two, but Snoddy and Weingart iced the game with their key foul shots. key tonight was the foul shots made by Weingart and stated a relieved Massengale Atop Hope Golf Classic WL Pet.
