Began Work. Contractor Nolen began work this morning on the sewer in the alley "Brooklyn," between Herr and Cumberland, and Cameron and i-leven- and-a-Half streets. Expected to Arrive To-Day. On the 4th Inst. Mrs.

Haly, who has been in London, left Liverpool on the American line steamship Ohio, and ex pects to reach Philadelphia to-day. On the 23th of this month, Mrs. U' Conner expects to leave Liverpool on the steam- snip Etruna, and to arrive in new York about the 5th or 6th of October. Beautifying the Building. Workmen were engaged this morning painting the front of the building occupied by Cook Sweeney Cook, Owing to the rain this afternoon work was suspended.

Miss Marv Kremer and Calder Foltz were united in marriage at the resi dence of Eev. Mr. Kremer, on South street near Front, last evening, in the presence of a select company of the immediate friends of the high contracting parties. John Kremer. who ac- itted himself with great credit. The tremony was performed by Chailes Kremer. The bride was the daughter of Frances Kremer, and the groom, a son of Nettie Foltz, who was prevented from being present by illness. The bride was dressed in dark blue plush; the groom wore a conventional black suit.

Among those present were Misses Kremer, Catharine Gross, Alice Whitman, Minnie Forney and her daughter Mary Louise. Alter con gratulations of the newly married couple refreshments were served, after which the bride and groom started on a wedding tour around the house. Steelton Items. The Paxtang Hook and Ladder Com pany, No. 1, will hold its regular meeting on Friday night, September 13, at 7.30 o'clock.

All members are re quested to be present, as business of importance will be transacted and the final arrangements made for their visit to Carlisle. The bath rooms of the new bathing establishments are completed and the fixtures put in are of the latest pattern, and the bathing rooms are handsomely furnished and carpeted. E. church (last night for the purpose of erecting an annex to the present Ridge avenue church for the use lof the infant Sunday school. The meeting proved to be encouraging to those who are interested in having the annex built, and it is quite probable that work on it will be commenced in a skort time. The Mt.
