LEWISTON EVENING 5,000 participants, was one of three who tied for first place. He was a former member of the Sekenger Council, K. of and a member of the American Federation of Police. In January 1926 he married Hilda A. Fennimore who survives him.

Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Edward Mosher of Medway, a brother, Henry of Bath; four sisters, Mrs. Arthur Gallagher of Auburndale, Mrs. Angus MacDonald and Ruby MacDonald, both of Bangor, and Mrs. Joseph Fournier of Elmwood, and two grandchildren.

Kathryn Hilton HALLOWELL Mrs. Kathryn A. Hilton, 86, of Vaughan Street and Auburn, died Saturday night in an Auburn nursing home after a long illness. She was born March 21, 1888 in Old Town, the daughter of James H. and Bertha A.

Clark Anderson. She was a member and past noble grand of the Golden Link Rebekah Lodge, Gilford and associate member of Granite City Rebekah Lodge, Hallowell. Mrs. Hilton was past president of Moosehead Past Noble Grand charter member of Pythian Sisters, Chiquita Temple of Abbott and a member of the WCTU. Surviving are a stepson, Lester 0.

Hilton, Bingham; a' stepdaughter, Mrs. Hildred M. Flanagin, Madison and a stepgrandson. Emile Christman Emile J. Christman, 85, of 1290 West Chicago Detroit, Michigan, died at Plymouth General Hospital in Detroit following a long illness.

Born in Brunswick, he was the son of Joseph and Ester Belanger Christman. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Germaine Murphy of Lewiston. Amie Belanger Amie Lynn Belanger, daughter of Jacques V. and Nancy L.

Vallee Belanger, Cotton Road, Lewiston, died at St. Mary's General Hospital shortly after birth, Saturday. In addition to her parents, survivors include one sister, Michelle, of Lewiston; the maternal grandparents, Mrs. Irene Fogle, Auburn, and Henry Valle, Manchester, paternal grandparents, and Mrs. Reginald Belanger, Lewiston; the maternal grandmother, Alexina Bernier, Auburn.

FUNERALS CEDELICE CARON Services for Mrs. Cedelice Caron were held at 11 o'clock this morning at SS. Peter and Paul Church, following prayers at the Pinette Funeral Home. Rev. Rosaire Pelletier and Rev.

STAPLES SOUTH PARIS Services for Daniel C. Staples were held Friday at 2 p.m. from the I. W. Andrews and Son Funeral Home, South Woodstock.

Pastors, John King and Edward Gammon, officiated. Entombment was at the Buckfield Village Cemetery, where burial will take place in the spring. LED Responds To Three A.M. Calls Lewiston fire fighters responded to three calls before the noon hour today. At 9:25, firemen were dispatched to 666 Main Street to check out a short circuit in an electrical fixture.

At 10:41, firemen went to 62 O'Connor to handle a car fire which was extinguished when they arrived. At 10:50, fire personnel went to Birchwood Trailer Park to assist a person locked out of her home. Courteau, 43, died Saturday afternoon shortly after arrival at Franklin County Memorial Hospital, Farmington. He was born in Lewiston, Sept. 30, 1931, the son of Edward Juliette Parron Courteau. He received his education in Jay schools and in 1951 enlisted the US Air Force. He served in Korea and received his honorable discharge in 1955.

He married Cassie Morrill at Jay, May 28, 1955. He was employed for many years by the Norwalk Shoe Co. Mr. Courteau was a life resident of North Jay being honorary member of the Jay Fire a member of the North Jay Sportsman Club, a member of North Jay Methodist Church and Wilson Lake Country Club in Wilton. Surviving are his widow, Cassie and a daughter, Jean Ann, both of North Jay; his father of Livermore Falls; four sisters, Mrs.

Theresa Bisson, North Chesterville, Mrs. Yvette Estys, Livermore Falls, Mrs. Evelyn Gassett, South Portland and Mrs. Avis Johnson, North Chesterville. Gertrude Powers MILTON PLANTATIONMrs.

Gertrude M. Powers, 76, died Sunday at Rumford Community Hospital after a long illness She was born at Augusta, May 26, 1898, the daughter of Elmer and Rose Rollins McCurdy. She was married to George F. July 23, 1922. Mrs.

Powers had worked as a. waitress in the vAX Restaurant in Togus and had worked as a cook in Augusta restaurants. Mr. and Mrs. Powers moved to Milton Plantation from Augusta two and half years ago.

She was a member of the Jackson Silver AL Auxiliary, Locke Mills and a member of Prince of Peace, Lutheran Church, Augusta. Surviving are her husband of Milton Plantation; a brother, Edward of Portland; a sister, Miss Agnes McCurdy, Old Lyme, two half brothers, Eugene Dow, Old Lyme, Conn. and Charles Dow, Portland; a half sister, Mrs. Myrtle Gammon, Auburn. Chester Soucie BRUNSWICK Chester Joseph Soucie, 69, of 53 Boody died unexpectedly Friday evening at a local hospital.

He was born in Benedicta, April 2, 1905, the son of Joseph and Annie Coolong Soucie. He attended schools in Benedicta and Millinocket. He was employed for several years by the Great Northern Paper Co. in Millinocket and came to Brunswick in 1942 as a guard at the Bath Iron Works. In August of 1945 he joined the Brunswick Police Department, retiring in 1970 as a sergeant.

As a young man Mr. Soucie served in Company 103rd, Infantry, Maine National Guard as a master sergeant and won many awards and citations for marksmanship. Sgt. Soucie competed at a National Guard marksmanship competition in Camp Perry, Ohio and out of dreds of patients showed this to be true in many cases. Marine Corps Youth Meet At Waterville The United States Marine Corps Recruiting Service of Northern New England announces that it will hold it's State Meet of the Marine Corps Youth Physical Fitness Program (YPF) Regionals on April 5, 1975 at 10 a.m. at the Colby College Field House in Waterville. High School Teams in Maine will compete against each other in five (5) areas of physical fitness push-ups, pull-ups, standing broad jump and the shuttle run with each team fighting for State Titles and placement in the Regional Meet.

Also in the running with Maine Teams are New Hampshire and Vermont who are competing for the same Regional Titles. Their Meets will be held on separate days. The scores from the top three teams of the Tri-State Regional will be submitted for entrance into the First. Marine Corps District Meet (Northeastern United States). All participating high schools within the Distriet are competing on equal terms for the top three positions in the District.

The District positions will qualify them for entrance in the Nationals to be held in Washington, D.C. in June. Once at the National Meet, the top three scoring teams from each District in the country will The Auburn Rec Fourth and Fifth Grade Boys Basketball League ended Saturday with three teams deadlocked for first place. Finishing with 6-1 records were East Auburn, Fairview and Washburn Schools. Plans are being formulated to hold playoffs for the top spot, the first game likely to be held Saturday.

Washburn, by virtue of winning a free-throw contest, has drawn a bye in the opening round. That means East Auburn and Fairview will tangle to see which team gets to play Washburn for the title. In Saturday's action, Washburn crushed Lake Street 24-9; East Auburn, edged Chamberlain Fairview defeated Sherwood Heights 22-4; and St. Louis won its first contest of the season by defeating Lake Street 21-13. GRAVEL Joseph Gravel Joseph F. Gravel, 59, of 95 Horton Lewiston, died suddenly Saturday afternoon after he was stricken ill in front of his home. Born in St. Fabien, P.Q., July 3, 1915, he was the of Richard and Delphine Campeau Gravel. He lived in Lewiston for the past 55 years.

Mr. Gravel was housing inspector for the city of Lewiston. Prior to that he was assistant overseer of the Bates Manufacturing Co. He was a World War Il. Navy veteran, a member of American Legion Post 22, a member of SS.

Peter and Paul Church and of the Holy Name Society, Surviving are his wife, the former Bertha C. Caron of Lewiston; two daughters, Mrs Richard (Marcelle) Labbe of Alderton, England, and Mrs. Robert (Joanne) Beaudoin of Lewiston; four sisters, Mrs. Adrian (Julie) Caron of Lewiston, Mrs. Patrick (Jeannette) Poulin of Lewiston, Mrs.

Albert (Cecile) Campbell of Bell Gardens, and Mrs. Lionel (Therese) Maillot of Oregon; five brothers, Philip of Greene, Henry of Lewiston, Gustave of San Diego, Eugene of San Francisco, Albert of Ukiah, Calik, and six grandchildren. Mrs. Basil Robbins BAR HARBOR Mrs. Ethel R.

Robbins, 80, died Friday at a Bar Harbor hospital. She was in Eastport, Aug. 9, 1894, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George C.

Rice. Mrs. Robbins was graduated from Boylston High School, Eastport, in 1915 and from Gray's Business College in 1919. She taught the business course for several years in the Hallowell High School and Ellsworth High School before her marriage to Basil S. Robbins.

H. Wallingford Former Maine legislator Bancroft H. Wallingford, 84, of the Perkins Ridge Road, Auburn, died Sunday afternoon at his home after a lingering illness. Born Dec. 13, 1890, in Auburn, he was the son of John and Emma Wallingford.

He married the former Winnifred Olfene Sept. 27, 1922. He had served two terms in the Maine House of Representatives, from 1931 to 1934, representing the city of Auburn. He was educated in the schools of Auburn, graduating from Edward Little High School in 1907, and I operated the Wallingford Orchards until it was sold about five years ago. Survivors include his wife: one son, Otto H.

Wallingford, Auburn; one daughter. Mrs. Helen L. Mawhinney, of Machias; one sister, Mrs. Ina Whitehouse, Auburn: two brothers, Vernon Wallingford of St.

Louis, and Roy Wallingford of Pass-a-Grill, Fla. and seven grandchildren. MARIE A. LAVASSEUR Marie Levasseur Mrs. Marie- Lavasseur, 78, formerly of 16 Stewart Lewiston, died Sunday at the Marcotte Nursing Home after a lingering illness.

She was born Oct. 21, 1896, at L'Ile, the daughter of David and Marie Pelletier D'Amboise. She was a member of Holy Family Church, the Ladies of St. Anne, and Cercle Du St. Sacrament.

Survivors include her husband, Eugene Lavasseur, Lewiston; a daughter, Mrs. Joseph R. (Jeannette) Blais, Lewiston; a son, Lucien Lewiston; a sister, Mrs. Georgette D'Amboise, New Port Richey, brothers, David 'D'Amboise, New York City, and Leon, New Bedford, ten grandchildren and ten -grandchildren. W. Jackson WATERFORD H. William Jacobson, 80, died early Sunday morning at Stephens Memorial Hospital after a long illness, He was born in Vinalhaven, Dec. 7, 1894, the son and Elda Niemi Jacobson and attended Monson schools. Mr.

Jacobson owned and operated a farm at Baker Hill here for nearly 33 years and for many years was employed at the Morse apple orchards here. He was employed by C. B. Cummings and Son, Norway, for 15 years until retirement in 1961. He was a member of the First ANNIVERSARY MASS FOR MRS.

Depending on age Volleyball Semi-Final The East Auburn Lakers Auburn Rec. Basketball Deadlocked came from behind Sunday night to win the semi-final match in the tournament of the post season Rec Men's. Volleyball League. The number-two seeded Lakers dropped their first match to the third-ranked Dark Horses by a score of 15-13. The Dark Horses were led in that by Norm Gove and Bill Saucier.

However, behind the spiking of Verne Paradie and Mike Duperey, East Auburn came back to capture the last two games, 15-9 and 15-6, and advance the Lakers to the championship game next Sunday.
