Franolsco, May The municipal relief committee at a meeting held this morning decided to accept the Japanese relief fund of $100,000 and all other gifts of foreign countries and foreigners, notwithstanding that Presdent Roosevelt had refused the offers when first made. The refusal of fres I ident Roosevelt to accept these gifts was unfavorably commented upon at the time it was made, here and abroad.

Many foreign committees refused to accept the president's refusal as final and forwarded the money to San Francisco. The committeS has now decided to taKe all the money that shall be offered. It is believed it and much more will be needed. Shoup, of Juneau, United States marchal for Southeastern Alaska, is at this place, having just arrived from SanFrancisco He says he will be a candidate for delegate to congress from Southeastern Alaska if thp platform adopted shall be broad enough to cover the entire district.

Mr. Shoup is in favor of one delegate for both the long and shori terms, believing that the man elected for the short term should succeed himself. Mr. Shoup will resign the marshalship at once if he accepts the Congressional nomination. WAR IS ON Strikers and Police Fight in Pennsylvania Dispatch to Daily Mount May Four hundred striking miners were injured and several killed in a conflict with the police here yesterday morning.

Monday night the mob attacked the pol'ce force that is guarding the anthracite miners at this place. The trouble lasted all night and thousands of shots were fired. The state militia was called out and arrived all day yesterday. Their presence had a quieting effect. TWO Off Cottage City and Al-Ki Arrive at Seattle (Special Despatch to Daily Alaskan.) Seaitle, May The Cottage City and the Al-Ki arrived from Skagway last night.

The Al-Ki had on board Chief Sunhihat, of the Haidahs, on his way to Lios Angeles where he will live in the future. He is taking a large number of totem poles. The Santa Clara sailed for the north last night. Order your coal and wood from the Alaska Transfer Company and it will be delivered promptly. Ballaine, of the Alaska Central, has returned from the east. He says a company has been formed of New York and Pittsburg capatalists to develop the coal in the Chicaioon and Matamuska districts. The company has a capital of $2,500,090, aud it will compete for the markets of the Pacific coast and Alaska. Mr Ballaine, says, that the extension of the Alaska Central will be pushed this summer. He predicts busy timeu for Seward.

HOGOATT HKfS OAIlt or OFFICE Early Monday morning, at Juneau before Judge Royal A. Gunnison, Wilfred B. Hoggatt was sworn into office as governor of Alaska. The oath was administered at the residence of Judge Gunnison. Gov.

Hoggatt received the congratulations of his friends and left on the Rustler for Sitka, where he will relieve Gov. Brady. One of first of Gov. Hoggatt's official acts will be the removal of the capital from Sitka to Juneau. He has, it is announced, the consent of the administration to do that'.

In referring to the induction of Gov. Hoggatt in office and his policy the Juneau Dispatch says: "The only patronage at hand at the present time is the appointment of an official stenographer, the salary of which is to be paid out of his emergency fund. As this office is not officially created it is doubtful if any appointment will be made, but a stenographer coutracted for to do the work. One of the first principles to be taken up by the new governor will be Alaskan offices-for Alaskans. On this subject the governor is enthusiastic.

"Governor Hoggatt will return this week from Sitka and then spend a week closing up his mining business so that the management of the Jualin mine can pass over to the hands of his brother, Herbert Hoggatt." The government asserts that they are being egged on by enemies of the republic who hope a revolution might re suit that will restore the old order of things.
