The M. E. church prayer meeting was held Thursday evening at 7:30 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A.

T. Cundy. Mrs. Ray Smith and two children of Cherryvale, are visiting relatives here. Mrs.

Smith will be remembered as Miss Faye Hawkins. Mr. and Mrs. Tarency Bath and children of lola, were Sunday evening visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs.

Joe Brundage. Mr. Bath is a cousin of Mr. Brundage. Mrs.

Charles Ddugberty and sons, Jack and Kenneth, visited Sunday in lola with the formers mother, Mrs. Gene Humberd, and sister, Mrs. Dale We 1st and son, Douglas Eugene, of Kansas City. Mrs. Joe Brundage and children were dinner guests Wednesday at the home of their sister and aunt, Mrs.

Ralph Perkins. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Cain spent Wednesday afternoon' in the country of lola. Mr.

and Mrs. Dewey Steward visited Tuesday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Page, near LaHarpe. Mark Pierson spent Wednesday in Hepler at the home of Mr.

and Mrs. Steve Chezem. J. M. Rowden is quite ill and not able to be about his work at the blacksmith shop.

Hie Horton Oil Gas company struck gas Tuesday in their well at Concreto. Quite a number went Xo hear the splendid speech which was given by Fred Voiland, Topeka merchant, in the Gas City school auditorium Tuesday evening. Several selections from the Howard Harmony Boys furnished the music for the evening. George Moon. L.

T. Cannon, and W. H. Cl8y, of Chanute, spent Tuesday night in Gas. Morning worship services at the More than 1,500 striking miners, with their wives and children, fled in ter-lor from the picket lines around the Taylorvilie, 111 coal mine when national guardsmen attacked them with tear-gas, smoke bombs and bayonets.

The strikers had defied an order to clear a path for the miners reporting to work. Here you see two national guardsmen watching a tear-gas barrage roll across the field toward the strikers. Several miners were injured in the attack before the troops finally forced the strikers to clear all streets in both Taylorvilie and Hewittville, a suburb. OWL CREEK (Miss Blanche Ellis) Oct. 11 District 5 Community club met September 28 with Mrs.

Ira Howell and Joetta and Mrs. Van Fossen. Twelve members were present. The work for the afternoon w-as makng dish towels and sewing quilt blocks. After the meetmg a delicious lunch was served.

The next meeting will be with Mrs. Chas. Middleton in lola, October 12. Mr. and Mrs.

Henry Wagner and George Main, Bessie and Jessie Hay attended a birthday party on Mrs. Lawrence Sicka Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hay and sons and Miss Brownrigg spent Sunday at the Brownrigg home, near Mont Ida.

Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Middleton and Benny spent Thursday afternoon and Friday afternoon at the Ben Ellis home. Joetta Adams spent Sunday with Mildred Orth.

Virginia and Christina Dice spent the afternoon there. Mrs. Henry Wagner spent Friday afternoon at the Ben Brown home. Miss Brownrigg spent the afternoon there. The county superintendent visited Owl Creek school Friday morning.

Joetta Adams visited school Wednesday afternoon. Henry Peters spent Thursday afternoon at the Ben Brown home. Mrs. Bert Orth returned home from Humboldt Friday after a week spent at the home of her mother, Mrs. Domitz, where she helped care for Mrs.

Harmon. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. J. E. Campbell.

Mark-Pierson has received the sad news of the death by drowning of his nephew, Mark Pierson, son of Mrs. B. F. Hixon, east of town. Is quite 111.
