Page Ten THE HAMLIN HERALD, HAMLIN, JONES COUNTY, TEXAS WAC CAPTAIN CAROLYN GREENWAY GOES TO NEW EUROPEAN POST AS DUTY CLIMAX KANGAROO STYLE WAC Captain Carolyn F. Greenway, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ros- me Greenway, left the Array Air Force Technical Training Command headquarters at Scott Field, Illinois, this week for the European Theater, where she will serve as an administrative officer, it was nanounced this week from Scott Field. With more than 48 months of service in the Army Corps, Captain military history has gradually turned itself away from her civilian occupation and entered into an administration capacity.

After graduating from Hamlin High School and West Texas State College, she taught speech and physical education at Ropesville and physical education at Las Cruces, Newr Mexico. She was teaching awimming at the University of Mexico before she entered the WAC in July, 194.2, After her basic training at Fort Des Moines, Iowa, she went through candidate school, graduating in September, 1942. Her first assign 1 ment was as an assistant director of I physical education at the WAC de! tachment at Daytona Beach, Florida, i She 1 was assigned to Fort Dev! in charge of WACs before their departure overseas. After another stay at Daytona Beach, she served a a physical education director at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, until Novem ber, 1943. She entered Western Technica Training Command headquarters at Denver in November, 1943, and was on special duty with the public rela tions section of the Central Techni cal Training Command headquarters at St.

Louis. She was with the train ing and operations section of West en Tech when it submerged with Central Tech in July, 1944. Upon the merging of all commands into the one technical training commanc in October of last year she was as signed as chief of the miscellaneous training section of the training anc operations section. HIGHLIGHTS OF REGULAR ARMY ENLISTMENT 1. Enlistments for IV 2 2 or 3 years. (1-year enlistments permitted for men now in the Army with 6 or more months of service.) 2. Enlistment age from 18 to 34 years inclusive (17 with consent) except for men now in Army, who may reenlist at any age; end former service men depending on length of service. 3.

A reenlistment bonus of $50 for each year of active service since such bonus was last paid, or since last entry into service, provided reenlistment is within 3 months after last honorable discharge. 4. A furlough for men who reenlist within 20 days. Full details of other furlough privileges can be obtained from Recruiting Officers. 5.

Mustering-out pay (based upon length of service) to all men who are discharged to enlist or reenlist. 6. Option to retire at half pay for the rest of your life after 20 to three-quarters pay after 30 service. All previous active federal military service counts toward retirement. 7.

Choice of branch of service and overseas theater (of those still open) on 3-year enlistments. Because they are not eligible for induction before reaching the age of 19, many young men in this category are under the impression that it is not necessary to register before that time. No man have been inlucted during July and August, but the local board expects to be notified the latter part of this month the number of men to be called in September. Under existing directives, any physically qualified man between the ages of 19 and 30 is eligible for induction in the September call unless he is entitled to exemption because of prior service in the armed forces. Students preparing to be dentists, doctors, and veterinarians may be deferred provided they are far enough along to be accepted as premed stulents gy the schools in which they are studying. Any student wh has not completed his high school training may be called after his graduation or his twentieth birthday, whichever is first.

Men deemed es- sntial to the national existence may also be deferred. According to a new directive, the classification of men who were on active duty in (he armed forces for less than six months may be reconsidered.
