(AP) monie. About half the trees felled in most areas of county and state forests hit by a July Fourth storm will be salvaged, a state forester says. The exception may be in a 5.000 acre area of Big Block timber in the Flambeau River State Forest, where between 75 and 80 per cent may be saved, Milton Reinke said Thursday. Reinke said the Natural Resources Board will decide next week what to do with trees blown down in the area known as Big Block, which includes one of the last big stands of hemlock, and in a 3.000 acre area along the Flambeau River. The board has scheduled a meeting for Wednesday in Meno- PROFESSOR DIES CAMBRIDGE.

Mass. (AP) Prof Joseph Keenan of the, Massachusetts Institute of nology, an international ty on thermodynamics, died Sunday. He was 76. Reinke said inaccessibility, cost and the large number of trees down will make it impossible to salvage more than about half of those outside the Big Block stands. Soft woods are quickly attacked by insects, while hard woods can still be used even if they remain on the forest floor for two years after they are felled "We just have time to get at all of Reinke said.

He said trees are being appraised in county and state forests in a 2,000 square mile area of northern Wisconsin. Bids on the harvesting probably will be received in about six weeks, he said. com MACKINAC ISLAND CANADIAN NORTH SHORE LAKE SUPERIOR TOUR 42 Hinmnthn CoJudlES 6 August 1 Dinner at Grand Hotel included Soo Locks Thunder Bay, Duluth More Intludos Transportation, lodging, touring and sarviots o) an ascort.
