The weather for the past tew days has been favorable for the growing crop, and in some sections stands appear fairly good. Generally, however, the condition of the crop remains poor to fair. According to recent reports put out by the department, the condition of the crop in Virginia and North Carolina 19 10 per cent lower than that of the last ten average. As has been previoualy reported, acreage in Virginia is considered to have increased 10 per cent and in North Carolina 20 per cent over 1926 figures. Based upon July 1 conditions, however, the crop for the two States 1s estimated at slightly less than last year's production.

See table on page 6 for details. Reflecting the higher market on farmers' goods. prices for cleaned and shelled Virginias have increased at shipping point. Some cleaners have found it necessary to notify the trade every few days of price advances on finished goods. These changes have been carried to quotations in consuming markets also.
