SACRAMENTO, Sept. 25. Active preparations looking to the reorganization of the National Guard of California' will be undertaken early in October, Adjutant General J. Uorree announced. General Borree said Governor Stephens and himself desire to wait until all National Guard officers und men have returned froirt France to give them the first chance to take up the new work.

According to word from Washington these will be out of the army by October 1. One problem wilt be the- Trcing of the men who are returning within the high ranks. Many who were sergeants are now captains and majors. The guard now consists of only six1 Infantry companies, located in San Francisco, Sacramento, Ios Angeles and Santa Ana, The state is authorized, said General Borree, to organize twelve Infantry companies, two troops ofq caa.lry. one battalion of engineers, one battalion of field artillery, eight companies of coast artillery, one field hospital company and one field ambulance company.

The strength of the guard fully organized will be about 5000 men. Before the war the guard mustered 10,699 men and officers. Lack of an adequate congressional appropriation restrict- the guard's strength now.
