letters written officially Some months ago political enemies of the collector sought to displace him and for weeks it was rumored that he would he superseded After many trips to Washington and strong endorsements of the collector the effort to oust him was effectually overthrown and the collector renewed Ms official bond and began what was regarded aa another term The action of the President In the case af Collector Rogers ia believed to he a parallel to that in tha cage of Marshal Treat whom he subsequently reappointed Whether or not there Is soma favorite of the commissioner or the President to be 1 provided for cannot he stated Bo far as known here Commissioner Terkee Is alone responsible If hs has acted on the advice of or by reason of surreptitious charges filed by soma
