Vogel place a strong team in the field for the Maxwell Hardware Company. Last year the Maxwells made a strong bid jor the Class A championship of The TRIBUNE Mid-winter League. This year they are entered in the National division of the Class A and although they lost their first game, they proved they are a strong link in their division.

After thst inning the Crystals did as they pleased, while Murohlo, pltohlng his first game for the Laundry lads toyed with the Del Monte batters. Ore. Walter Hagen Has Started on Tour CHICAGO, Oct. 30. Walter Ha gen, urltisn open gou timuipiuu, and Joe Kirkwood, the Australian trick shot player, have started a tour which will take tnem over a large part of the west, according to Robert E. Harlow, their exhibition manager.

The tour started Saturday at 'ansae City. 1 They plan to go into tho northwest to play In British Columbia before going to California in December. Both the golf stars expect to play in tha open tournament of the southwest during the early part of 1923. In their tur of the east Hagen and Kirkwood won 46 and lost 11 matches against all sorts of competition. Both broke, course records.

canfnn 1 Loses 9-4 To Calatone Team The Calatone Water Co. tossers won In a loose game yesterday from tha Pleasanton Merchants at the Coast League Park, taking an early lead of seven to One In the second Inning and winning out 9 to 4. Buckley started on the mound for the Pleasanton Merchants but gave way to Heinle Lay after one and one-third. Innings, Heinle holding the winners to but one run from then on, scored in the seventh with two bunched hits. The winners gathered a total Of fifteen hits for twenty-one total bases.

McClung pitched good ball and was never in danger with. the lead built up by his teammates In the early frames. Pleasanton scored three runs In the fourth Inning with but one hit. Perryman and Crowder starred with their hitting and base running. Elwood and Sinclair likewise featured In the hitting department, each getting three hits.

The Durant Motors got away to an early lead yesterday afternoon at San Leandro against the Best Traotors and accounted. for a 10-9 win, after thhe San Leandro boys had made a vain effort In the eighth inning rally to. overcome the lead. The rally fell one run-ehort ot overtaking the lead built up by the Motors in the early frame. Humphreys pitched good ball for the Durants, despite the fact that he was nicked for fifteen hits, but his wildneBs caused him to be relieved by Shoulder who i later gave way to Land who finished the game.

McFadden was showered with base hits early in the game and was relieved by Austin who pitched creditable ball, the Durrants accounting for three runs off his delivery. Meranl played an excellent game at first base and drove out two home runs. Qardner likewise 'hit one for the circuit.
