Bibb Accidents Claimed 5 Lives During March Five persons were killed' io traffic accidents in Bibb County outside Macon during March in one of the worst accident months on record here Sheriff's Capt Adams said today deputies Investigated 88 accidents during the month compared to only 57 in February and 70 in January Thirty-two persons were injured in accidents during March and 14 arrests were made in connection with the accidents Adams said Damage estimates totaled $38-530 compared to $27390 for February accidents The persons killed in March accidents included Dan Dunn of Blossom Street James Jackson of 648 Piedmont Avenue Betty Wayna Harris of 223 Spring Street Mrs Lois Medley of Commerce and Charles Brantley of Warner Robins A breakdown of the arrests showed seven persons were charged with driving while under the influence of intoxicants in connection with accidents and another was charged with permitting another to drive while intoxicated Others were charged with passing at an intersection driving without licenses driving with defective brakes and driving without a license tag School Patrol Plans Trip to Washington Applications are now being accepted from members of the School Patrol in Macon who want to take the Patrol trip to Washington this year Officials said boys and girls who belong to the school patrol may file their applications at the secretary's office in the Macon Police Department The trip to Washington will be May 4 through 7 Arrangements are being handled by Traffic Sgt Fred Single-ton who is slated to return to regular duty Monday Houston Contest Frances Rozar blonde soprano and the youthful Future Farmers Association Quartet took top honors last night in the Houston County Farm Bureau Queen and Talent contest eliminations Miss Rozar 16 who aspires to study either business or music in college received a big ovation from the crowd when she sang Morning and My Own True Love theme from Gone With the Wind The lovely Houston vocalist will enter Third District Eliminations soon to decide contestants for the state Farm Bureau Queen Tbe boys quartet clad in pink shirts and blue pants blended their voices harmoniously singing the Negro spiritual Swing Low Sweet Chariot and Vive Le Companle In the quartet are Kemp and Ralph Dorsett Charles Davis and Gordon Scarborough Miss Rozar has been active in church singing and Sunday charge of murdering her husband March 8 has been denied an application for bond Forehand Superior Court clerk said She is charged with shooting and killing her husband -S Holland 45 Bleckley farmer following "family trouble" Bleckley Sheriff Gus Giddens said he had originally understood Holland had shot himself but Mrs Holland sought him out at the courthouse following the inetdent 'and told him she had done the shooting Holland was shot in the right side of the head with a 12-gauge shotgun and was found still alive on the front door steps of his home although he died a short time later the Superior Court today for May 6 The hearing was set for today following Howard's conviction of the charge by a Jury Feb 25 but Judge A Phil Anderson fixed the new date today because the court reporter has not yet completed transcribing the trial record Solicitor General William West said he hopes the record can be completed In time for tbe hearing to be held May 6 as now scheduled Howard was convicted previously on seven counts and was granted a new trial by Judge Anderson on five of those and by the Georgia Supreme Court on the other two It was more than a year after the first trial before the new trial motion could be heard Howard was sentenced to two years in prison following his second conviction and is now free under $5000 appeal bond pending a decision on the motion for a
