FINAL edition Mst tribune WEATHER Variable cloudiness, continued mild tonight and Tuesday. Westerly winds, 5-12 upper 30s tonight. Mid-60s Tuesday. VOLUME 63, NUMBER 310 20 Pages LA CROSSE, WISCONIN, MONDAY EVENING, MARCH 25, 1968 Two Sections PRICE TEN CENTS NEW PDC-MARQUETTE BRIDGE IS PROPOSED PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, Wisconsin and Iowa Highway commissions have jointly submitted plans to the U.S. Coast Guard for a proposed bridge across the Mississippi River between Prairie du Chien and Marquette, Iowa.

The plans show a Main Channel (west side of the river) multi-span bridge with a clear horizontal opening of 390 feet for navigation between bridge piers. Vertical clearance in the span would be 60.5 feet above normal river level. The plans also show an East Channel multi-span bridge with a navigation opening of 340 feet between piers, and this also would have a vertical clearance of 60.5 feet. Whether the plans will be approved rests primarily on the effect of the bridge on navigation. However, the Coast Guard announces, other factors will be taken into consideration in determining whether the bridge would be in the best public interest.
