leader Karma Richins Ann Wilkinson achievement contest Karen Ann Wilkinson Miss Bohman Carolyn Lamb and Karma Richins record book contest IT' STRIPED KITTY IS ODOR-FREE ALL THE SAME- NORTH OGDEN A striped kitty without a scent to his name almost as mysterious as he is odorless has North Ogdenites rubbing their eyes in surprise The polecat appears and disappears with regularity but thoughtfully keeps himself inoffensive Residents ho have spotted him ambling through orchards barn yards and back yards declare he is the biggest skunk to roam the area in a long time Nephi Manning flushed him a while back from a culvert when he turned a stream of ater in it He has been seen off and on all summer by members of the Harold Pettigrew family Mrs Pettigrew who thinks he might be a deodorized pet that escaped said Sweet William is handsome and brave Perhaps the skunk is deodorized or perhaps just a gentleman but North Ogden people are keeping their distance just in case 'O- -V 40' V' I V' JU black accessories Other first place 4-H Club win- ners at the county fair who will go to the State Fair are: Karen Christensen and JoAnn Francis as 4-H Club demonstration team Brent Morgan indi- Advanced Foods Club under the leadership of Mrs Ilyrum Winters of Devils Slide It was climaxed by an unusual display of pastries from nine different countries the Morgan Coun ty Fair last eek The club consists of Karma Richins Diane Dickson and Kaye Winters Karma and Diane were county state and regional winners last year as a 4-H Club demonstration team with their demonstration on Ice and Kaye Winters won a trip to Chicago as county and state winner with her demonstration of Batter J- This year the group has studied other lands and their habits In their exhibit display at the fair they entered such pastries as julkaga from Norway Egyptian cake from Egypt kugelhupt from Germany Patles Espainoles from Spain Diples from Greece and Humitos De Chocle from Equadore I GRAND -John A Jones with a rand champion steer that brought 33 cents a pound in the Oneida County Fair ACHIEVEMENT HONORS Black Angus Fire at Willard Destroys '51 Car A model auto-mobile went up in smoke on Highway 191 near here Tuesday when a car driven by Thomas Stuart Wellsville was forced to stop because of mechanical failure and the vehicle immediately burst into flames Firemen made a quick run to the scene said evidently lack of lubrication caused two piston rods to be thrown through the block and the resulting friction ignited the gas in the car to 33 ALL SEWED UP and ready to compete in the State Fair at livestock auctions which wound up Oneida annual fair a few days back The animal owned by John A Jones sold for 33 cents a pound The reserve grand champion entered by Mary Lynn Ipsen brought 25 Vz cents In the sheep division Melvin grand champion brought 26 cents and the reserve champion belonging to Jill Jones went over the block for 23H cents The grand champion in the swine division sold for 20 Vi cents a pound Its owner was Kay Lewis The annual fair and horse race drew record crowds to Malad i 1 was the largest fair to date Almost $1500 in purses went to winners in the two days of horse racing RACE WINNERS Bob Laura Don won $100 followed by Donnie Weather1 and No Dough in the first race Sham Joy copped $100 for owner Henry Vinter in the second race with Mr Cobbler and Baramat placing II Glen won the purse of $100 in the tlTird race followed by Red Wing and Royal High Queen won $100 for Seth Gregory in the fourth race Ben Heathen and Fancy Stocking placing The sixth race paid $225 to owner Russ Anthey for Scot first place iTristan Jr and Miss Brevity came in second and third in the same race In the seventh race Verda Boom copped $100 for owner Grant Hitt La Vada and Pima Betty placing In' the eighth race Westy Hill won the $100 purse Foul Play and Sure Devil placing Court of Honor: on Sept 30 jare progressing according to schedule in spite of the recent division of the ward All former members are encouraged to attend this dinner and program which will also be a form of farewell party Much activity is under way as most of the 50 boys enrolled in Troop 35 attempt to finishr up odds and ends of requirements in order to receive their pins and merit badges that evening The mothers of the scouts are in charge of ticket sales Proceeds from the affair Will go into the fund being raised to take all worthy scouts on a trip to Alaska in two years Applications for the position of clerk of the Riverdale Town Board have been called by that group Miss Eleanor Call the present clerk has presented her resignation effective Oct 31 Written applications should be in the Town Board office by Sept 24 1955 A Mother and Daughter banquet is to be held in the Riverdale LDS Ward recreation hall tomorrow night beginning at 7:30 All girls between the ages of 12 to 20 are encouraged to attend and bring mothers A program will be presented following the banquet 4- Brent Johnson 5-year-old son of Mr and Mrs Ernest Johnson is still under a care after stepping on a nail about 10 days ago Camp 27 of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers will hold its first meeting of the fall season at the home of Mrs Bessie Boswell captain on Thursday afternoon Sept 22 beginning at 2 pm All eligible members are invited Mr and Mrs Roland Bills and children Bonnie and Bobby have returned home after a trip to Las Vegas Los Angeles and San Francisco They were gone a week Brent Stephens son of Mr and Mrs Harold Stephens came home to enter school after spending the summer working and Barbara Stimpson Women receiving the leaders achievement awards were Mrs Bertha Child YWMIA president Mrs Perneica Fiet attendance secretary and Mrs Helen Norton special interest class advisor1 Books were presented to Karen Kapp and Mary Alice Revoir in recognition of the fact that they each had missed only one meeting Forty-two positions in the Riverdale Ward were left vacant by the transfer of 275 members to the newly created 49th Ward The selection of replacements in those positions will take place at evening services next Sunday The meeting beginsat 7pm A list of the personnel
