Youngblood is the daughter of Mike and Peggy Youngblood of Mount Pleasant. The golf benefit is only one example of charity to hold a benefit at the new golf course. In addition to the Carbondale Park District's tremendous support, local businesses contribute to such an event by sponsoring door prizes and awards or one of the 18 holes on the course. "AAUW has been very effective in shedding light on the problems of gender bias and sexual harassment in schools," Weidner said. "Now it is up to each of us to ensure that these problems are addressed in Carbondale." Speakers at the convention included poet Maya Angelou and educational leader Mary Hatwood Futrell.
