George McCor- mick, for over 40 years pastor of the Salinas church was elected mod- erator for the year.

The honor of clerk of the synod comes to Dr. J. F. Ross, pastor of the local church, Thg principal speakers were Pollard, M. Dt, medical missionary from Egypt, who spoke on "Mohammedanism," and Dr.

J. Pinkerton of Los Angeles; who delivered a timely war message. The needs of the state mnd country were in the thoughts of the delegates at all times. Stephens and Young were endorsed because of their stand op moral issues. A telegram was sent to president Wilsont-saylng; "We, the synod of California of the United Presbyterian church, meeting in Oakland, heartily endorse yourT-epiy made to a proposition for an armistice, forwarded, by the imperial Ger--man chancellor.

We also renew our declaration of loyalty to the administration In its conduct of the war, expressing our highest appreciation of what has been accomplished. -Further, we pledge our unqualified support of your policy of war to complete victory; first, righteousness, then peace." A resolution was also forwarded to national headquarters commending the work of the Red Cross for the glorious caufe but respectfully protesting against public dancing, the use of gambling devices and the Sale of cigarettes.
